Putting the stuck gas pedal vs. brakes to the test

Shift to neutral ----> emergency lane was the first thing I thought of when I saw these headlines.

It's kind of frightening to me that people didn't know what to do in this situation.

Pretty cool, I feel more informed. I wouldn't have guessed the engines would have caused that much duress on the brakes of the cars without smart throttle.

I actually found out how I would react in a situation like this 2 weeks ago. I was backing into a space, while looking out the right side windows. Suddenly, it appeared that I was still in motion after hitting the brake repeatedly. So, I instinctively threw it into 'Park'; should have went for neutral, but I never use it in an auto so not so useful in a panic. Luckily, the reason it looked like I was moving was because the minivan I parked beside was waiting for me to finish so he could back out.

The way you made it sound was that people drive daily all the time not knowing they are in S which wouldn't work.

But yea if they shifted into S while they were driving it would do as you state

Well, we are really only talking about one guy who may have picked up an unfamiliar car as a loaner, not everyone.

I think we would both agree though, that there are a lot of drivers out there who might not have a clue about that shift pattern.

I'll bet you my dad has no clue... I've tested his ES350 sport mode once, I didn't get used to the shifting so I stopped using it
