ic - why the difference in prices just the speed?

http://www.newegg.com/app/searchProduct...&description=sapphire+pci&Order=priceD

What do you think about:

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-102-512&depa=0

Ok I am outta here for the night. Let me know what one off newegg you think is good and I will check it out tomorrow. I dont really see the reasons why the prices are so different. Its the same card PCI 256MB?? I also like the fact of dual outputs. Get two LG monitors and use one for gaming or dual desktops!

The $600 sapphire x850 xt pe vivo dual dvi card I linked earlier IS the same card as the $899 card at newegg.

It's the highest end desktop GPU out IMHO.

The best gaming video card in an NF4-SLI system with SLI disabled is probably the Radeon X850 based cards.

HuddaDudda, I'm worried you're spending money without knowing what you're getting. What games are you looking to play? What applications are you looking to use?

4000+ would not overclock well because it's the highest model made from 130nm.
3500+ would o/c well pass 4000+ o/c speed because it's made from 90nm and put out a lot less heat.
If you really want the highest possible clock speed get a FX-55 (130nm + strain sillicon, suppose to o/c much better than then 4000+)

What he said...

Now, a Athlon64 4000 may be a sensible use of money if you want to avoid overclocking entirely but I would definitely prefer a 90 nano part. Anyway, you do overclock.

SLI is definitely overkill at 1280x1024.

High-end RAM gives you rather little in performance, see Zebo's post in the overclocking forum. But Ballistix is reasonable value.

I hope you have a dual monitor setup because that is somewhere where spending money can make a real difference to your experience, desk space permitting. Maybe consider a Dual-DVI video card if you have two LCDs.

2GB is good for Photoshop but will otherwise hinder you in overclocking and so will be a negative in gaming performance.

Well I mostly do M$ Office apps. Like I said before I do play Doom3, Half Life 2 and COD on the weekends and evenings. I do want the best CPU, Video Card and Memory but not the top of the line. More of a second line down. I have been successful in OCing in the past.

Even if I get one PCI card its still SLI mode right? I wouldnt be disabling it just because one card is in?

I like the AMD 64 3800+ or 4000+ - the 3800+ is on a 90n correct?

Also I just use 1 LCD a LG 8ms 1980U with DVI

with some good cooling i would rather go with a amd athlon 64 3200+ if you plan to overclock and save some dough for other items. i personally am running a 3200+ @ 2.2ghz but had it running at 2.5 pretty stable for a good 3mos. ( i decided that since i was not gaming anymore i didn't need the extra ooomph, hence why i'm running 2.2 ghz now)

No. you need two Nvidia cards right now for SLI. If you use one card there is no need for you to get an SLI motherboard. Just get the DFI for like $140

3500+ is the highest 90nm currently $289

Get this mobo $140

Ram $130

X850XT $445

You might be able to find cheaper prices.....you should also get a retail 3500+ 90nm I couldnt find it on Newegg.

Well one thing I like with the ASUS and K8 boards there are 6 SATA connections on them. Right now I am running 6 HDDs (4 400GB) - So I really like that. However that being said my office is running HOT everyday - about 10 degrees hotter. I was thinking about getting a network NAS drive (1 TB or something) and put everything on the network since the reason for the drives is due to my owning my own company. I could toss them in a closet or something. OK to make myself even MORE confused what about a 3500+ with a good gpu (??) and Mobo - with watercooling? Keep the temps down - better OC on the A64 chip and since the money I am saving I could get the watercooling. thoughts?

Just my opinion. A XP120 + loads of case fans might give you similar or even lower temps as watercooling.

Yeah but like I said I am running 6 HDDs ATM - So heat is an issue. Plus a right now I am running 2 intake fans - 1 top blower and 2 exaust fans in the back. I am running silent quit fans and a zalmann cpu cooler which is quite too. I have a fan in the office with a digital temp readout so it turns on and off the fan automatically. When the readout is on top of the desk its 68-70 degrees - under my desk on the case its about 78-80 degrees! 10 degrees more! 6 HDDs add a ton of heat! I am really thinking of dumping out the HDDS to another case or like I said before sell them off and get the 1TB NAS storage. This elimating some heat from my office - then with the watercooling quite it down a bit instead of 6 fans and keep temps down too. I am looking at the Koolance PC3-426SL

I also was wondering what model AMD 64 3500+ should I get? Winchester, Clawhammer, Newcastle? Which one is the 90n?

Winchester is the 90nm part.
I have a watercooling setup in my FX-55 rig. It's great for looks, but I don't think it's worth the trouble and the temps.

Do you think the watercooling for OC a 3500+ vs air would be the same? What about the overall heat factor? I was also thinking about the watercooling the HD too. Is watercooling really that much a pain in the a$$?

The 3500+ winchester is a very cool CPU. Some people are able to bring to 3500+ up to 2.6GHz with stock air cooling.
Watercooling can be troublesome because the tubes can loosen and leak out water, difficulties when moving your rig etc, but that's all up to you.

Watercooling isn't needed on an A64 winchester unless[/u] you're an avid overclocker. And by avid I mean you'd be aiming above 2.7ghz.

If you're just asking to play the games you listed, a 3000+ winchester/chaintech nf4u/gig pc3200/X800 (16 pipes) will do that as well as any setup.

Given the games you listed. Here ya go.

The board you want.
DFI Ultra-D

3500 is fine if you want to spend the cash. 3200 would work just as well.
AMD ADA3200BIBOX
AMD ADA3500BIBOX

Best card on the market.
Sapphire 100101

Perfectly suitable. You can unlock the pipelines making it > X800 XL
Sapphire X800 Pro VIVO

The highest of end. Way overkill, but if you got the cash...
OCZ DDR600 2x512MB

Paired with the DFI Ultra-D this is perfect. Up the volts and it overclocks like mad.

Well I answered my own question. A AMD 4000+ San Diego Chip would be nice and its a 90n chip. Will look into this too! hehe
