i was at work today, and a co-worker put aluminum into the microwave, and it didnt explode or anything. At first, as soon he put the aluminum container in the microwave, i obviously question him. But he then answered that it was ok because he put something in the bottom of it (in this case, he put a styrofoam plate under the aluminum container). i was a little sceptical at first, but then saw that it didnt explode or anything. Now, does this really work in all microwaves?? im a little scared to try it in my own, heh.

If the foil is completely flat, it won't do anything, but it WILL get very hot (hot enough to melt the walls of the microwave if it touches it).

If there are crinkles in the foil, the microwaves bouce off the aluminum and collide with each other, causing sparks, heat and maybe even some fire.
