My new case has a thermal sensor which I want to put in the core, but where should i put it? I've noticed 4 holes in the stock heatsink near the core and under the fan, that's a good thing, but where do I place the sensor?

Thanks guys!

Also gonna put some Shin-etsu thermal grease in the core.

I rather like Shin-etsu than anything from the factory even if it looks like a good compound. What about where to place a thermal sensor?

Are you having heat related problems ? If not then is this just a learning experience ?

I'm not having problems. The question is that i want to overclock and want highest control possible.

you can put it as close as possible to the core try making it touch the core's side. The readings won't be really really accurate coz they are not taken from the center but it's better then putting the sensor on the heatsink.

Ive seen a dremmel used for this reason. You take off the hsf and dremmel out a little valley in the core of the GPU (just kidding) you drill a little valley for the thermister to fit is the underside of the heat sink where the core touches. making sure its flush and not sticking out otherwise you will prevent the hs from making good contact with the core. apply some high quality thermal paste (arctic silver I guess) and replace the hsf. Its the best temperature reading you will get short of actually going into the core.

Painstaking but works. I did this with a PIII CPU once.

Run the card at stock speeds for a while and play some games to get a baseline temp. This way you have some numbers to compare to.

Nice thanks! That's where I was to put it. I think I'll do it tomorrow. Thanks again.
