putting a PC together help

Hey all..

I've put a dozen or so PC's together from scratch, but this latest one has me scratching my head...

I've got an Abit BX6r2 mobo, a Celeron 500 (or 566, not sure off the top of my head) and a brand new case/power supply (Antech SX835II)..128mb ram, some HD's, a cheapo sound card, Geforce1 card..

Anyhow, the mobo and the proc came out of a working system..I put everything together, hook up the power to the wall, fire it up.........and absolutely nothing happens at all...nothing..not a beep, a fan, or anything whatsover.

Where do I start? I checked to see that the power supply was correctly plugged in, etc, etc...

Help!

Make sure the power switch from the case is plugged into the motherboard. I know I have done that before and it is not the first thing you would think of when you are in a hurry. I learned a while ago that if you turn on a computer and absolutely NOTHING happens, the problem will center around the power supply.

After checking switches and plugs, check your power connectors. For example, it is pretty easy to plug in the power to your floppy drive incorrectly, in which case the power supply will not turn on.

Here are a couple things to try: either try a different power supply, and/or try tripping the Power Button pins directly with a metal object. The PB pins are identified on page 2-3 of the manual, which you can download from here if needed. Good luck. 🙂

Set Minimal HD config (CPU< RAM<Vid...if onboard use that) then Check power button jumpers to Mobo...maybe reverse them or MoBo Jumpers as something fell off or the CMOS 1 is wrong

I might be a m/b specific.
I did put the floppy cable reversed, but the system works, of course not the floppy.

Make sure the voltage switch on the P/S is set to 110V and not 220V. Make sure you have power to the outlet it's plugged into. 😉

Did you perhaps bolt the motherboard directly to the case and not use the little brass cup-headed screws to raise it from the chasis? I did this when I was very young and fooling around with old equipment, the motherboard got shorted out and wouldn't even turn on.

well well well...I had the power-button cable plugged into the wrong place in those two rows...damn!

Thanks guys, I should be ok from here!
