"American Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich and former U.S. marine Paul Whelan were released from imprisonment in Russia on Thursday as part of a prisoner swap deal, according to sources familiar with the matter.

The pair were freed after days of intense speculation that Russian President Vladimir Putin was preparing to free high-profile prisoners, though it remained unclear exactly who would be freed—and who the Kremlin would want in return. The full details of the deal to free Gershkovich and Whelan have not been made immediately available."

Doh one orange monkey talking point taken away from him. But he’ll manage a way to say it was him.

With Netanyahu doubling down, Biden won’t be able to say he was able to get a ceasefire before he’s done his term.

Who are we giving to Putin?
Unfortunately not Trump.

Some informed speculation here:

RIA also reported that four Russians jailed in the United States had disappeared from a database of prisoners operated by the U.S. Federal Bureau of Prisons. It named them as Vinnik, Maxim Marchenko, Vadim Konoshchenok and Vladislav Klyushin.

Seems to be multilateral so the list is probably incomplete on all counts at this time.

Disappointed that it wasn't the tangerine terrorist going the other way.

26 prisoners involved in total, sounds like 10 going to Russia and 16 coming from Russia.

The spin is in on Fox, with Burgum suggesting the deal went through because Russians think Trump will win, which would somehow undermine Russia's current position.

Up there with Trump taking credit for the stock market's couple year run up.

President Biden is scheduled to speak on the release very soon. 4 Americans involved. 8 returning to Russia and I guess 4 others. Apparently a complicated deal with several countries participating.

Getting the feeling Putin is starting to hedge his bets.
Not the only one. Alito recently hinted at retirement. Waiting to see if Harris wins.

Word of advice for anyone. Don't travel to Russia.

Alito doesn't want to die on the court, he will surely dedicate his life to making his neighbors lives hell and tormenting everybody on Nextdoor. Thomas does because the gravy train ends once he steps.

Word of advice for any US citizen: don't travel to countries where you could be subject to arbitrary arrest to be used as a pawn (eg, Russia, North Korea).
But...but...aren't those countries led by people we should admire?

Yeah I would think so. Can't count on Trump winning as much anymore due to our recent events. Gotta try to keep things on better terms with the current and next administration of Kamala Harris.

Oh it gets better—Harris helped broker the deal—started with conversations she had in Munich in February. Biden finalized the deal an hour before dropping out of the race.

On a sad note—the deal was supposed to include Navalny, had he lived. No doubt Putin had him killed to avoid giving him up (as many had suspected). Harris just spoke with his widow before the deal was announced today.
