theoretically what would happen if NK launched a nuke at San Jose(being a major west coast city) how would the world respond?

By the time the rest of the world came up with a response, NK would be a steaming pile of rubble

by theoretical you mean we are to assume that they have a rocket that can make it that far, and that it doesn't fail like their recent attempts?

Well if North Korea launched a missile at the west coast there would likely be little response since it would fall into the ocean and nobody would ever know it had a nuke on it. Now if we assume they have the technology to miniaturize nukes (which they don't), and if we assume they have missile that can reach the US (which they don't) then I'd say that the previous posts are correct in that North Korea would be destroyed before there was even time for the UN to have a meeting, or for international leaders to get a call in to the president.

I vote north korea would be destroyed before their missle ever made it to america. I'm sure we have a nuclear sub in striking distance.

pretty obvious that CTU would find a way to disable the nuke mid flight and that Jack Bauer would kill Kim Jong-il and 150 or so N. Koreans that can't shoot straight, all within, say, a 24 hour period.

what's the chance we have defensive systems in place that can knock a nuke out of the sky?

I'm not up to date on current military tech, but I'm willing to bet there is something.

I saw a show not too long ago on Discovery channel about some military jumbo jet with a frickin laser beam attached to it! From what I saw it got close then freakin laser beamed the rocket

they don't have the missile technology to do that

the most they could do with a nuke any time in the near future is toss it into Seoul

Seems like it would be impossible for the US to reduce NK to a pile of rubble without inflicting considerable collateral damage on SK.

Theoretically the nuke would fall back down onto the launch pad.

If they tried to launch it to San Jose it'd probably land halfway in the ocean between NK and Hawaii.

San Jose??

Wouldn't you think they would go for LA as a west coast target?

But yea, there would be a big hole in the ground where NK used to be if they did that.
