Put my money where my mouth is.. Got a diesel

I've been espousing the benefits of the 335d in the Dailytech car industry posts so I decided to get one for myself.

So Far, love the torque 65-100MPH is a joke with this car and will cause you to lose your license. Averaging about 34.5 MPG (60%hwy/40% suburb - EPA 23/36) over the first 1000 miles. Still in break-in...

Had it special-ordered with the M3 upgraded sound system
Plan on getting Huper-Optik tint next week. Ventureshield clear bra install this weekend..
Thanks to BMW incentives got this car within a few grand of an equivalent equipped 328i.

Can I pee in your bumper? 😛

Sure!
Some X5d owner claimed to have just done that, but supposedly there's a sensor in the urea tank that can tell the difference. I'm not going to worry about it as it's covered for the first 50,000 miles. Truck stops are supposed to start carrying the stuff for about $12 for the amount needed to fill her up for 15,000 miles.

Congrats man! If I could have talked my wife into a manual this car would have been very high on my list.

This car is automatic only, so more like you'd have to make a compromise. Still, love it! If I had the cash it would be high on list for comfort and economy, and lots of torques doesn't hurt the deal either. ^_^

It's too bad they don't a make Coupe 335d. It would actually be a looker, a performer, and fuel efficient.

Why an automatic?

Yup, no choice in this matter. They all come with slushie. My last E46 was a 330i with a 6M. Miss that car, but after 175K miles it was getting expensive to keep running. BMW manuals are bulletproof if not abused, autotragics are a different story unfortunately. I drive ~200 miles per day so the diesel price differential should pay off quickly for me.

Ahh didn't realize the diesel is auto-only...kinda strange. Anywho, nice car. 🙂 I'm a huge fan of smallish turbodiesel cars and would love to start seeing more here in the US.

No need to shift since you can get all of your torque in first or second gear.

335d only come in automatic because they are the only transmissions BMW feels that could handle the torque (edit:425lb/ft!!!!!!!!!).

I hear about great after-market mods for that sweet engine which can easily push HP past 300 and torque beyond a monstrous 500+.

If I waited 2 more years to buy, I would have gotten the 335d over the 335 anyday.

Very nice! That's a pretty rare ride 🙂 Hopefully that catches on. How are diesel prices where you are? In DFW area they totally suck, maybe it's some tax thing, often it's 40-50 cents more a gallon for D.

One of the weird things about expensive a$$ southern CA is the diesel prices. I've fueled up in LA/Orange counties and pretty much every station that sells diesel sells for about the price of regular or mid-grade. Yes premium gas actually sells for more than diesel here!

awesome dude. I was going to get the 335d until the government officials in this country I live in told me I can only import up to 330d. I gotta have twin turbo so I went with 335i, which is great as well.

That's monaco blue right? I got the same for my 335i. 🙂 Nice wheel you got there.

Thanks for the compliments! Yup, it's Monaco Blue. I know you're not in the US, but BMWUSA decided to can monaco for 2011. So no more Monaco Blue for now

I for the life of me could not figure out why it is a quite a bit slower than the gasoline version in acceleration with 125 ft lb more torque.

This thing should be a beast off the line with that much torque.

In general, diesels don't rev as high and use taller gears to make up for the loss in revving + use the extra torque. While this makes for plentiful acceleration and lots of seat of the pants enjoyment, the actual 0-60 performance usually suffers against a comparable gas motor. I think they also rev slower as well. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
