I thought that SSDs made my desktop usable, but it changed my HTPC forever.
I use XBMC Live as my OS on a frontend that connects to a HUGE media server. Overall I have over 1000 movies and nearly 200 TV shows.
Without a SSD when I went through the menus the constant seeking of images would lead to stuttering- that is gone now.
Plus before if I tried scraping new media while going though the menu things would slow WAY down. Not only is the interface snappier, but it does scrape faster as well.
Finally the thing reboot in like 30 secs now, and half that is POST. That is wonderful because XBMC is not 100% stable (it is the prettiest media center out there, not the most solid) and I have conditioned my wife to just reset the thing when it messes up. Now when she does, she is back up and running before she has a chance to call me and complain.
Best money I ever spent on a computer part, and that includes the SSDs in my Netbook and my Desktop!!!
