No more closing and then opening the next day. 11 hours between schedules, among other changes.

I'm not sure why employers think they can get away with this. When I worked at McDonalds, people would not show up if the scheduling was retarded. What is the company going to do? Fire those people and hope to find employees who are willing to work minimum wage and work ridiculous hours?

I think more people need to do things like walk off the job, quit without notice, and aggressively look for other jobs. That's the only way capitalism can work. If workers cave to demands every single time, that's what employers expect. They will expect people to work minimum wage, get 4 hours of sleep, and then work a second 8 hour shift. The high turnover rate is the reason McDonalds is a nice place to work. The employees really do not put up with bullshit of any kind because they know there are thousands of other jobs that pay the same or better. Now that I have a real career, I see that people hate their jobs. Nobody has any savings, everyone has a giant house to pay for. Nobody dares walk off the job, tell the boss to go fuck themselves, quit without notice, etc.
I think Michael Moore called it correctly when he said debt keeps people in line. If you hire someone who is barely getting by, you know they will never cause any trouble.

The massive job off shoring and general destruction of good paying middle class jobs that don't require years and years of college education have basically done in the bargaining power of Americans without degrees in currently lucrative fields. When McD and the rest of service jobs collude to keep wages comparable there reaches a point where they can all universally treat you like shit and give you the nuttiest of hours. If you don't like it, you can go to the next place... that does the exact same thing. There isn't much bargaining power when they all collectively get behind the same shenanigans simultaneously.
