Purplish Backgrounds/textures

I had a somewhat general question about displays.

Is there some reason in particular that in games, low quality video playback and so on. that background textures take on a purpleish tint/colour. This is mainly noticeable with greys on low quality textures in games and in playback of low quality video.

I tested my display against another hooked up to my computer and it shows just the same on both, if not as pronounced on the second display.

I had two video cards do that on me before they died. The textures would be fine sometimes, and other times totally purple for a certain type of texture. Then one day they started crashing, and kept getting worse until you couldn't do anything except windows desktop.

If you're nearing the end of a warranty, I would try a RMA for the card.

Do you have another card to test with though?

I have another card I can test with, but this seems fairly consistant and not like a random pattern. Like always the same textures or background.

I was just wondering if it was a quality issue or a card/display issue and why a purple tint, why wouldn't the texture just look more distorted or what not.

What displays did you use? What you're describing sounds like color shifting with the display rather than any kind of video card issue.

If you could switch out the card and test a few games that cause it, that should only take a few minutes.

I still remember Left 4 Dead was causing this on both the GTX 280's I had. It was always the same texture on the walls that would be completely purple/pink. Both GTX 280's were fine at first, then the pink started happening randomly and slowly grew more consistent, then it started crashing.

With the 6950 I have now and the same monitor, everything runs smoothly and is colored as it should be.

I just assume graphics since both monitors display the issue, and I've had this same type of issue before.

The tint is most likely from an error in the texture render, and it ends up missing from the output. There is a map I play on in TF2 that has a part of it missing textures, and it ends up purple/pink just like the 280's.

Dell U2412M LED monitor and a Sony KLD-Z4100 TV.

I'm going to go ahead and test a different video card to be safe.

Same thing happens on a different video card. Must just be the way the displays work. I tried a third display even (my old LG TN LCD monitor) and it does the same thing.

It's nothing major, just wondered why some textures had a purplish tint to them.

I looked up other color shifting posts. That's very different than what I was thinking when you said textures were pink/purple; the effect is much different. Guess it is just TN color shifting that I haven't noticed before, but I do now that I've seen it(especially off-center viewing angles).

IPS panels wouldn't have this problem; it's TN technology that gives off the tint.
