We are thinking that our cat might have diabetes. The vet came today to check out our cat, but he (the cat) got really angry and the vet couldn't draw any blood.

He gave us a package of something called Purina Glucotest which are little flakes that you sprinkle on the litter that test for glucose in the urine.

The color changed right away to red, indicating that there was a high level of glucose but we noticed on the package after that we shouldn't use a litter with baking soda (which our litter has).

Does anyone know how much this would affect the results? We're thinking of going and buying some new litter to check again.

We can't get a hold of the vet until morning so I figured someone here might know.

No idea.

However, one of our cats has diabetes and after we started giving him the shots (twice a day just to let you know) he started playing around more and stopped throwing up completely.

I've never used it before but if the box said don't use baking soda litter I'll bet there is a good reason why.

Call the Vet and ask them anyway just because I would like to know about the answer also. ;) While you have them on the phone you may also ask if they want to skip the food test and just knock the cat out with gas, I'm not 100% sure (only in my first year of school) but I think you can safely knock the cat out if it's not in a horrid condition (I would assume not since you are doing a at home test) and then get the blood that way.

It may cost extra to gas him but it makes everyones life easier.
