Hawaii will go down in GPU history one of the best GPUs in terms of longevity. Sadly due to AMD's poor execution at R9 290/R9 290X at launch with the ref cooler, the bitcoin mining rush and other issues such as power inefficiency wrt Maxwell and the DX11 CPU overhead this GPU could never match the market success of 780/780Ti and 980/970.

Hawaii/Grenada on ITX envelope with power gating a la Nano. YOU HAD ONE JOB AMD!

Seriously, I know the board would have been totally cramped to fit a 512 bit GDDR5 design with many VRM phases, but that card would have neutered the reason to give us the Nano and air cooled Fury. The Gigabyte WFx2 design is the shortest out of the bunch and it shows I could have been doable.

you mean this year. :) The 970 might be one of nVidia's most successful products ever but it sure ain't going to be a card to compete with Hawaii over the next 12-18 months.

Yep, keep spitting in the faces of GTX 970 users & trying to make them feel bad about their purchases.

How is that spitting in their faces?

You might trigger them. But I think this already happens to a user or two implicitly every time when a benchmark is posted and Hawaii beats 970. The rest of us just enjoy watching and commenting on GPU performance trends.

The writing is already on the walls so to speak. Not much getting around that given their choice and the history of what came before.

I never did that. Maybe you are interpreting more than what is being said. I am just pointing out a trend which has started in recent games where the R9 390 is beating the GTX 970 OC. My guess is that trend is only going to strengthen going forward.

I bought my 290 from a person who then went out and got a 970. If they actually followed benches I wonder how they'd feel.

I traded a 970 for a 290. I feel incredibly smug. So probably the opposite of that.

I had a 970, got a full price refund on it thanks to the 4gb fiasco. Then later when prices dropped somewhat on the jet deals, bought it again for 230 lol. Then again I did have quad 290s, sold one sitting on 3 lightnings. There was a time when 290 lightnings sold for 320 bucks ish.
