Pure is an ATV offroad racing game. It's on PS3 and 360 as well as PC. They sure didn't work out all the kinks of the PC version. It's turrrible. Though the game itself is fun, if you can get that far.

First of all, loading times are ridiculous. They screwed up something when programming because some loading screens are 2 min long. This is on 4gb of ram. I can tell it's not supposed to do that because often minimizing the game and bringing it back up makes it load much faster, or instantly most of the time. This is a widely known problem many people are having, load times being crazy long no matter how good your computer might be.

Another problem is the crashing/freezing. It's crashed my computer twice (once I had to shut down) and the game just froze up for no reason another time.

Also, the game doesn't want to remember my controller binds for some reason. So, I have to rebind all the controls everytime I play the game. This is really annoying as you can imagine. I couldn't find anyone else who had that problem though, think it's just me. I don't see why it wouldn't remember the binds though.

This game desperately needs to be patched. I don't know if they're even supporting the PC version though, doesn't seem like they have a website or anything. The publisher is related to Disney somehow. Don't know if there will ever be a patch.

Once racing though, the game is fun :) - If I had a 360 or PS3 I'd get it on one of those platforms.

As far as the controller thing goes; I don't know what to say...my 360 controller for PC works flawlessly for it. Just tested to see if it holds its binds and it does.

Loading times were a huge hassle for me, the fix I found was to go to your nvidia control panel (or ati I guess) and disable v-sync for all applications. Also, if it ever takes more than 30 seconds or so I usually alt+tab out (I play windowed, works the same with full screen) for a few seconds and tab back in...that seems to make it load up.

If you can bypass these problems it's really a great game.

well it's (mostly) not your RAM that dictates load times, it's your CPU...

It's a pity it has all these technical problems. This seemed to be the sort of game I would like from the AT article on it.

The game loads in like 15 seconds or less on the 360.

Sigh...pssst HARD DRIVE!!!!!!!!!!!

Why do you think Anandtech tests game load times when doing hard drive articles? The hard drive is always the weakest link when it comes to PC performance. Thank goodness cheap SLC drives should only be 2-3 years out.

I have the demo and noticed the long load times and crashing. I played the demo for about 15 minutes before it locked out, forcing me to hit the reset button. Also, I haven't been able to figure out how to change the screen resolution. I think it's stuck at 1024x768 or something like that.

My PS2->USB adapter always sucked, probably has to do with the game not remembering the binds. I don't know why it would remember all the other stuff (game status/video settings/etc.) though. Might have to get me one of those 360 PC controllers. I think they're pretty expensive though...maybe just a better PS2->PC adapter.

The game's problems have very little to do with computer performance (CPU/HDD/RAM/Video card/whatever) and much more to do with all the problems the game was made with. Don't know if they beta tested it at all or what. Don't know who to contact either since they don't have a site or anything.

Another problem I have found (this one actually game related) is some jumps are so big you crash right when you land no matter what you do. Even with max Handling stats. There are a lot of jumps in the game that are extremely hard to land and a few that are just plain impossible. Can try to land on all fours at the same time, have the front two wheels touch first, or the back two touch down first. It doesn't matter...you're going to get thrown off the horse into another county. So, that's kinda lame. They definitely need to fix that either with a patch or in the next version of the game.

But, the game is still a lot of fun. Wish I could play online but I'm sure it'd be a big laggy mess like all racing games are online.

Also, I've found keeping the game minimized makes everything load MUCH faster, but this also highly increases chance of the game crashing.

Hmm, I've experienced no long loading times. I do know what you're saying about the huge jumps, but practice DOES make perfect, after enough races I rarely crashland anymore, unless my guy takes his sweet time playing the air-guitar when his quad is about to touch down :p The problem I have with the game is that it gets repetitive very fast, there's only so many tricks, and in the end your just doing tricks so you can boost and boost some more, or you can't beat the #1 and #2, because they are MILES ahead of the competition. I did find the mode where you run out of fuel pretty funny though.

I'm really surprised others aren't having the same problems as me (besides the crazy long load times in most cases). Must be OS specific.

My ATV with really low trick stats is faster doing tricks than my ATV with high trick stats. Neither can survive a big fall even though they are maxed out on handling. Don't think I'm going to play it until they patch it. If they don't patch it, then I'll just never play it again I guess :p

Tried it and I can confirm it's one of the buggiest games I've ever seen.

Ridiculous load times, crashes, etc.

I got around the long load times by alt tabbing to the desktop. For some reason it loads normally if you do that.

Yeah it works, but seems to increase the chance of the game crashing by 80%.

After laying off the game for a few days I got bored and wanted to see if I could do anything to make it work better...and I did - This is primarily for Vista x64 users, and it won't improve loading time no matter what system you're using, but for that problem you can use the minimize trick (which helps loading times a ton) as mentioned above without fear of game crashes).

Anyways, I finally got the game running without crashing for the first time in a long while. What I did was right click on the game exe, went to properties and clicked on the Compatibility tab and checked "run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows XP SP2, not checking anything else, besides "run as administrator if you haven't done that already. Then when in the game, go to video options and disable Post processing. Doing all that, the game ran without crashing. The colors actually all looked a lot brighter and more vibrant also. Also, I didn't have as much trouble landing after big jumps like I did before.
