Low scoring games are great, simply because EVERY SINGLE PLAY has a chance to be the pivotal play of the game. Every play is important. I find that to be infinitely more exciting/entertaining than a Texas Tech style of playing. Plus, as Neo V said, ask Texas Tech what happens when they meet a good defense.

USC's offense isnt good enough to beat OU's defense as much as OU's offense would spank USC's defense. THAT game would likely be a blowout, simply because USC hasnt seen a defense like OU's. And ask Miami what happens when the first time your team encounters a tough defense is also the national championship game.

If the Buckeyes play OU, OU's offense is going to have to handle the blitz better, since Baylor's 100+ ranked defense was able to get to Jason White several times. And Baylor's starters (with maybe one or two exceptions) on the D-line and their LB's would be lucky to make second string at OSU.

Two questions for you: Whats the hardest defense USC has faced? How many of those guys could start on the Sooner's defense?

Think about that for a minute. Now think about this. USC's offense is sort of like Miami's offense of last year prior to the Fiesta Bowl. They were a fast scoring, high points offense. Then OSU introduced them to a great defense. And smacked the cr@p out of their Heisman candidates. Will Allen... well, you probably saw the replay of that hit over... and over... and over. And then Wilhelm hit Dorsey like a freight train with a couple dozen JATOs mounted on it. You know someone had their bell rang when they cant maintain their balance... while on their hands and knees.

EDIT: just to clarify my point. USC has not faced a really, really good defense. Once that happens, they're going to have to have a really, really good defense of their own. Which, while their defense isnt bad, it is not on the level of OU's defense.

They didnt kill them, but the people who complain about that last call need to both look at the first 60 minutes and start looking at all the calls that went against OSU/all the calls that werent made against Miami (one defender threw Jenkins to the ground... no flag), AND they need to look at the wide angle camera view on that pass. If it wasnt pass interference (and after looking at it frame by frame on the VCR, I think it was) it was definitely defensive holding. One way or the other, its a first down for the Buckeyes. After the game, and the resultant crying from Miami, there was a nice flash on the internet, showing ~8 or so OSU passes that were interfered with, without any flags.

The Sugar is OSU's to lose now. BSC projections have them jumping LSU and USC, and taking the #2 spot. If they beat Michigan they will hold on to the #2 spot. I think the Wolverines will win though so its a moot point.

I don't know enough about the players on Oklahoma's defense to answer your second question.

As to the best defenses, USC scored 22 points and had 315 yards against the #7 defense, Auburn. This was before they went on thier recent offensive tear.

They also scored 35 points and had 306 yards against #18 defense, BYU, also before their offensive tear.

They also scored 43 points and had 436 yards against #25 defense, WSU.

About defense, here's the Iowa Defense breakdown(I comment Iowa just because I've watched all the games):

Against #6 scoring offense Miami(Ohio) - left with only a field goal on the scoreboard
Against #7 scoring offense Minnesota - Not a touchdown scored by them until 4:XX left in the 4th quarter
Against #9 scoring Michigan - left them standing 10 points lower than they normally do
Ohio State never scored an offensive touchdown against us and we lost because of stupid mistakes that could have been prevented.

Having an excellent defense wins championships. You shut out your opponents and either cause fumbles or interceptions for returns for points, or you set your offense up for good field position forcing the other team to 4 downs and a punt. You can win a game with a good defense without even having offense step on the field.

And somebody mentioned Oklahoma's defense, so far I would say it's mostly an unkown since Oklahoma hasn't had a game where their defense was under a lot of pressure in a game winning situation.

After this weeks game I would really like to see OU face a team that can put pressure on the QB and stop the run. IMO that would be the key to stopping them. I mean, Baylor sacked Jason White 5 times... and I havent heard anyone talk about Baylor's D-linemen (or D line as a whole) being anything special.

Actually, they scored 23 points against Auburn. I also wouldn't exactly call the win against Auburn a good game. Auburn never showed up for that game and USC pushed them all over the field, they just failed to convert some of those opportunities into points.
