Heh, I was about to call shens for the neural impulse actuator. J/K :-D

Re: the Raid Controller Card, I was going to suggest that you drop it, because my understanding is that with Raid 0, the onboard controller is usually as good, and often better, then the performance you get with a card. (It's with Raid 3, 5, & 6, I think, that you really want a card). I'm not the most knowledgeable on this though, so if someone else can confirm...

thanks adam for your info. If I use the motherboards raid can i setup multi raids then. Like one for the velo drives then maybe 2 cavailar black drives later on?

and can the ASUS Rampage II Extreme LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail
support 3 sli.

the reason I am asking is because on there website http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=3&l2=179 it doesnt say that it has teh tri sli it just says sli. and on http://www.asus.com/products.a...model=2619&modelmenu=2 under expansion slots it says it has 3 pcie 2.0 x 16 but then it says (x16, x8, x8) or dual 16x speeds. Basically I dont understand what that means

also looking through the deals If i get the asus motherboard I can get http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16817814001 for 269.99 instead of 369.99 so 100 bucks off its a 100 watts more and seems to be a better psu.

OMG, $1300 for just the PSU and CPU. I upgraded my whole rig for half the price :(

The PSU, the first review I found said this: The MSRP for the ABS Tagan ITZ1300 power supply is over $400 USD and our friends at Newegg have them available for $369.99. While the ITZ1300 has some very good features, the high AC ripple on the DC outputs is a show-stopper for a power supply in this price range.

So no, find a different PSU. $100 is peanuts on the 5k you're spending ... The thermaltake I suggested is tri sli gtx280 certified, so why not just go with that one ?

Would an Antec Quattro 1000w be enough for triple-SLI? I keep hearing great things about those psu's and at $159.99 it's a bargin.

newegg link

EDIT** looks like it won't handle triple since it only has 2 6-pin PCIe and 2 8-pin PCIe connectors. If you just go with dual SLI I think this is probably your best bet PSU wise.

If you haven't ordered yet get a Zalman GT1000 case instead. You'll be very pleased once you have (rest assured). The build quality and usability is second to none.

i made the same mistake as the OP once(spent $5k on an absolute top of the line machine), but i will never repeat it. it is just flat out stupid to buy the absolute top of the line stuff because it is for a FACT going to be significantly less good within a few months. it is much much much smarter to buy mid-high range stuff and just upgrade more often. that way you always stay just shy of the top of the curve and get to keep a lot more money in your wallet.

You do realize we want picks. No picks means we won't help you anymore ;)

Btw, I've just went along with this, but what eddiebravo said is pure wisdom, you could get a KILLERrig for half the money, and upgrade it to be killer again in 1 year.

Personally, I like the Gigabyte X58 UD5P board, it's tri-SLI and tri-Crossfire certified.
It also has plenty of SATA ports for things like RAID.
Or you could go with their Extreme X58 model, I believe it comes with water-cooling ports for the northbridge.

Nice rig, btw. I thought I was spendy when I splashed out $260 ea for a pair of DFI X48 TR2 crossfire-capable motherboards.

workmans comp check. 250k woot woot. Long story short I had a metal spike go through my body do to my old employers neglagence. They where supposed to get rid of it. They were told to they were even fined once because of it. they didnt bother getting rid of it i fell onto it and it went right through. I was bed ridden for 6 months now 2.5 years later I'm back to about 50 percent of what i couldl do before. They are finally settling out after all that time. they were paying me 800 bucks a check and I got to go to school for free. I almost have a degree in computer repair technology. More replacing chips and resistors and networking stuff.

But Finally after all that pain I will be getting paid. The biggest down side I have now though is I am addicted to opioid. (loratabs) it happens to 60 percent of everyone that takes opioids. Even barbara bush. I am goin on medication to help me get off of them. I'm not a druggie or anything. I dont smoke drink no Marijuana crack snow anything.

I have 3 big purchases coming up this computer a 2009 jeep wrangler and laser eye surgery. I cant wait

Why only 150 Gb Velociraptors? There are newer 300 Gb V's now.
And: a 1500 W PSU is extreme overkill for your project.
A PC Power & Cooling 1200 W PSU should be more than enough, for even a triple-SLI 280gtx xfx video card setup.
In case the urge to upgrade occurs.
See: http://thedigitalkitty.blogspo.../2008/09/twit-ugm.html
Note: they picked the BFG Overclocked GTX 280 Graphics Cards, which are factory equipped with liquid cooling support.
I'd suggest looking on Google or Newegg.com for some other good quality 85%+ efficiency rated PSU's.
Or a pre-assembled X58 system:
http://www.alienware.com/produ...58&SubCode=SKU-DEFAULT
Anyway: good luck getting off your drug dependency. Might try
a total vegetarian/vegan diet for a few weeks. See if that helps any.
(Most animal meat products are a mix of animal and man-made hormones, which are themselves kinds of drugs.)

is the $250k taxable? even if it isnt, i think its pretty stupid to blow $12k on a freaking computer and projector, and then buy a new car on top of that. reminds me of that showtime documentary where they gave a homeless man $100k in cash and just followed him to see what he would do with it.

dude.. invest/save atleast half of that.! spend 2-3k (if that much) on a computer system and upgrade every year. Buy a pre-owned '08/09 car, let someone else take the depreciation hit. Buy some property to RENT out. You make more money and get some write-offs. This is thread is crazy, but we all have that dream of building our dream top-of-the-line computer with money not being an object, but what the guy said about building the mid-high end system is a gem. Make an note of that when you get your degree and begin your career in the computer building/repairing arena.

whats really funny is you could build a computer for less than half the price of what this guy is going to spend that would perform EXACTLY THE SAME for just about every use imaginable. the difference between ultra ultra high and and mid-high end is only noticeable at the very end margins of use. i mean, is there a difference between 100fps and 120fps? yea, maybe for about 30 minutes of play time in crysis at the extreme resolutions you might see a difference, but for 99.9% of what you are going to do, thered be no difference. and what makes it even funnier is that the ultra ultra high end machine is going to be just as dated as anything else in a few months time. buying that computer is the equivalent of buying a roll of gold threaded toilet paper.

i would buy a duplex with the entire $250k. this way you have very little or no mortgage payment, you have a stream of income with very little management headache, and you have an appreciating asset. if you put down $250k and make $30k/yr, thats a 12% cash on cash return. not only is that MUCH better than anything you could get investing, you are also building long term value as property values rise(which they always do in the long run). but no, go ahead and spend it on a computer that is going to be outperformed by a machine 1/4 the price in about 6months time.
