I'm gonna be purchasing a DVD player. My budget is $150 max. Preferably, I want to to play as many other formats as possible...mp3's, vcd's, etc. I don't know anything about models or quality, so I need advice on what to purchase to get the most bang for the buck. If it makes any difference, I have a 42" TV screen. thanks!

I am also looking for one. From what I understand so far, its a good idea to buy one which has component out. Walmart has a Sanyo for $140 which is nice.

I got a Panasonic RV31 - plays dvd, mp3, vcd, svcd, and even plays CD-RW discs.

Best Buy

Or, look it up at Pricewatch.com to find a good price. Definitely a high quality dvd player. A little above your price range, but not much.

PANASONIC DVD-CV51

It's a little more money than what you're looking to spend, but I would say it's worth it. Here are some of the specs.

Black Level Adjustment
Chapter Preview
Dialog Enhancer
Digital Output Select (48kHz or 96kHz)
DTS Support
MP3 Support
On Screen Menu
Progressive Scan
CD and DVD
CD-R
CD-RW
Video CD (VCD)

If you can't find an Panasonic DVD-RV31S/K for under your budget, wait until you can.
