Purchasing Computer

Retribution

Hey everyone. I've recently decided to purchase a new notebook due to the fact my old one is about a decade old. However, I'm not well acquainted with all the new hardware (sure, I know what's better than another, but I'm not very economical). My friend told me that he came here a few months ago and everyone was extremely helpful and educated when he was getting a new PC.

Anyways, I was wondering if anyone could help me come up with a good computer (budget of $2400) that can I play games on (new ones, but not perfect quality or anything), complete schoolwork, watch movies, etc. Just basically, a jack-of-all-trades? Nothing ridiculously amazing. I was looking at the Sony VAIO AR series, and I felt like the prices were a little crazy. I would like a notebook that is Windows Vista ready, however.

If I could get any specs, advice, or anything in general, I'd appreciate it. Thanks all.

The graphics card is the most important choice in a laptop since it's usually not upgradeable, and has the most effect on gaming by far.

You want at least an nvidia 7900GS. You'll probably need to look at Dell's XPS line, Alienware (now owned by Dell), and Voodoo (now HP I think).

I agree - gaming will require a good video card -
