Purchasing a Multimeter soon

Hello all,

Due to some suspected power issues with a laptop and PC I have at home, I've decided that it would be handy to have a Multimeter around for checking power problems of that sort.

I have'nt used one of these things since a few years ago so i'm a bit rusty... are there any specifics I should look for when getting one of these?

Thanks for your help!

You can get really basic things for $10, though that one doesn't look too bad; measures volts in DC and AC, plus resistance, plus a diode/transistor test...not bad. Or you can get something for closer to $100, which can also test capacitance and temperature. Some also test inductance.

Be warned, with the resistor test, and with some other tests as well, the meter will apply power to the circuit being tested. With some of the tiny components and IC's, this low power level can still be enough to cause damage.

Thanks for the replies,

I was looking to spend about $30 or $40 at the time, I think i'll go for a cheap one and get the more expensive later on when the funds are available.
