Purchasing a CD-Rom? HELP!

Anyone have a suggestion for a good CD-ROM ?

I have a 52X Creative Labs CDRom, but it freaks out when connected to an 80 PIN IDE cable, and it has trouble picking up a CDRW or CDR at times. I do copying CD to CD with my plextor burner and it gives me several difficulties.

I was considering AOpen 52 X or a Sony 56X or a Asus 50X CDRom (all are IDE) Any thoughts?

thanks

The Asus drive is an awesome CD-ROM drive. If I had to buy another drive right now I wouldn't buy anything less than the Asus. I have yet to find a CD that I can't read in my Asus drive.

Edit - One cool feature it has is that you can adjust the speed of the drive by holding the play button. I've had a few cheap CD-R's go flaky on me and the only drive that would read them was my Asus, just slow it down to 8x and it would probably read vinyl 🙂

Another vote for Asus. Mine reads everything I put in it. I also have a couple Creative's and both have trouble reading some CD's. My experienece with Sony was suck. I went through 3 of them in a year, but this was about 3 years ago. Maybe they have gotten better. Can't help you with the AOpen though.

Thanks folks. I think Asus will be the way I go. Now when ever I play a CD in my creative labs it reboots the computer. Nice. .

Appreciate the suggestions of a DVD-Rom but I already have a pioneer one. Rocks too...but it doesn't read some Data CD's correctly. So with that, and my Plextor burner I need a good standard CDRom. So Asus is the way to go....

Thanks
