Purchased a new-to-me car - Pics include now!

First off, let me say I was torn about this decision. My heart told me to go with the 6-speed manual, but my brain said get an automatic because I am stuck in Austin traffic 70% of the time that I am driving. I went with my brain, and the dealer put my man card on 3 month probation. I've had manual before, and it is fun but it becomes a PITA after awhile.

I am very happy with the car though, and I think I got a pretty good deal. It is a one-owner (now two) Silver 2003 with graphite leather interior (very clean!). It had a little less than 41,000 miles on it. The asking price was $19,200, and I got them down to $17,510. I put $9,000 down, and financed the rest at 5%.

What really made the deal go through for me was insurance. Since I'm graduating in a few weeks, my parents and I thought I was going to need my own policy. I talked to my dad's agent though and that was not the case. I can stay on it as long as I'm under 25 and single. If I was on my own, they quoted me $213/month. With my parents, $57/month!

Good choice, the clutch on 350Zs are heavy and you'd probably regret it after a few weeks of stop and go traffic.

congrats on a nice car  Believe it or not, before I bought my CRV, I was considering a used 350Z. I know, they're two completely different cars. I was considering the 350Z with an automatic also (congested traffic reasons). I didnt go with the Z because it's incredbily small inside, and it was definetly not practical for my lifestyle. I dont know how I'd go camping in that thing, and Im not sure what I would do if it snowed. Im sure you dont have that problem in Austin 🙂

I find the cockpit to actually have ample space for me, but it is small. It's definitely more comfortable than my dad's C5 Corvette. I had a claustrophobia at first though because I'm used to having a huge back seat behind me. 😛

Cool, I bet you'll enjoy it.

I still have my car on my parent's plan and I'm now 26 (25 when I bought it). I called and said I wanted to add a car to my family's policy, and they said that as long as the bill for my car would get paid if it was sent to my parent's address, they didn't have a problem adding another car to the policy. I just pick up the bill when it arrives at my parents. My parents are happy to do it because it lowers the premiums on their cars to have another vehicle on the policy and I am extremely responsible with bills. I have a separate renter's insurance policy through the same broker that is only in my name because they want to send the bill to the same address you are insuring.

Aren't you like 6'4" or so? At 6' I found it rather toit and very awkward to get in and out of.

I can't imagine how much worse it would be at your height.

But if you are comfortable, enjoy!

Grats, I'm about to trade in or sell my 2003 350Z with less than 25k miles on it. A two seater sports car is pretty much a useless luxury to me since having a newborn baby, so I'm about to get some type of 4 door gas sipping econobox.

Turning in man card now 🙁

I love the Z's... Always liked them. Though I've never owned a Nissan before. 😱

Wouldn't work for me, with a family (hopefully) coming soon... Guess I'll wait until retirement... haha

Yes I am 6'4". I haven't had any problems getting in and out of it. Maybe because I'm young and limber. 😛

Just wondering, did you cross-shop G35 6MT Coupes?

Not really. I think the G35 is a very nice car, but I wouldn't buy one. I really don't like how the back-end looks. Plus, it seems like a comparable G35 is 1-3k more than a 350Z.

Fair enough 🙂 Enjoy your Z!

There's some cool Nismo stuff out for it, a lot of it standard on the JDM 380RS.

Nice, except for the lack of entertainment for your right hand and left foot.

Like shitting on parades, much?

Congrats on the car, OP.

Well, it is a sports car with an automatic. Kind of hard to get around that. But it does look immaculate.

Did you not read my reasoning in the OP for buying the auto?

Yeah, I did, it makes sense to me. I just don't think auto tranny belongs on a sports car, that's all 🙂
Optioning out a sports car with an auto tranny turns it from a good sports car into a so-so GT car, IMO. I think 350Z is a very good sports car, but not a very good GT, compared to even it's cousin the G35 coupe.
