I'm so excited! Went to the dealership because the just got a new G8 GT and they know my lease is up on my GTO shortly. Well, I drove the G8 first, and for the money, it competes very well in its class. They also had a sharp looking dark gray CTS sitting next to it. I took it out for a drive and loved everything about the car. I'm due to pick it up in 30 minutes. I will post some pictures once I get back.

'08 CTS is hands down the best looking car out right now (minus exotics). Cadillacs Art & Science design has evolved into a beautiful car.

I would venture to say the interior design is also tops right now as well.

Fantastic choice!

Let me first preface this with: I'm a huge Euro fan. But I will admit Cadillac has really stepped it up as of late with the CTS leading the charge (not counting the escalade ::wretch:: ) and it's great to have them back in the big leagues.

enjoy and congrats  (for after the driving of course)

No doubt. Probably in part because we hired Audi's head of interior design away from them a few years ago, she's top notch !

Alas, no, the "new" coupe will likely be a 2010 model, ie. not yet available.

They never made a two door CTS. You may be thinking of the XLR? They made a sporty version and a regular version.

IMO, the new CTS is not quite a BMW yet. The one I had (which I only got to keep a week) was the base model, non direct injection engine. Exterior styling is nice, but the driving experience was merely OK. The base engine lacks torque, though it does pick up a bit towards higher RPM. Interior design is fresh, I do like the Cadillac materials...approaching MB quality in some areas. Its a quiet car, rides well, and decent fuel economy....a very competent commuter with some grand touring capability.

The thing with the CTS is that it feels like a car designed by a clinic. It was made to be broadly appealing, but in a distinctly sanitized way. I suppose for the non-enthusiast it is perfectly acceptable...but coming from the GTO, I'm not sure this was the best choice for the OP. Any reasons why the 300C SRT8 was not considered?

When I said "new", I meant based off the new CTS ...

??? No, it was designed by a team, just like every other production car in the world.

One week in a model w/out the DI engine is hardly fair grounds upon which to state this. Plus, it was never meant to be an "enthusiast" model, that's what the CTS-V is for. I'd put one of those up against your 'Bimmer any day. And we got no "Bangle Butt" ... :D

I wanted something with AWD which pretty much is either a BMW 335x or Infiniti G35x. The GTO has been a nightmare every winter and I wasn't going to make that mistake again. A co-worker has a 335x and it's a really nice car, but after going to many lunches, I got a good feel for the car and like the CTS better. The Infiniti dealership would just not wait on me. I guess I didn't fit the profile of a 40 year old yuppy or whatever they are looking for. Anyways, I feel that car haven't gotten so good that it's about comparing the fine details and personal styling preferences, instead of wondering if your car will last 100k.

One thing all the kids on car boards forget is that American luxury has the most comfortable seats. You get a BMW or MB and a Cadillac or Lincoln will put it to shame in terms of seats. I drove a 5 series BMW for a day and that fucker killed my back.

Nice nice car! How was the G8 by the way? And why did the dealer have a G8 and CTS side by side?

My executive ass is so used to the seats in our Olds Aurora that many import cars' seats feel cramped, and I'm not a big/tall person at all!

Coming from someone who doesn't like domestics, the CTS is an awesome car. It has that classiness a lot of new cars lack nowadays.

Awesome. I would've had the dealer debadge their advert from the back of the car. Looks pretty sweet.
