hey all as most of you are aware from my other posts im going to be purchasing new hardware for the new system.

just curious if any of you guys are waiting it out for some new product releases which will be out soon (before, during, shortly after) the holidays which will drop the current prices drastically?

i understand technology is always improving but i'm targeting any hightly anticipated products. i'm trying to hold back purchasing everything today hehe. ;]

if you wait, there is always something that is going to be better, faster, etc. what are you trying to build, gaming?

The sooner you purchase hardware the sooner you will have hardware, unless you order something that's got a horrible backorder.

If you want something now then buy now.
If you are content with what you have then buy later.

There is nothing on the horizon as far as I know. Amd 5200+x2? Maybe, who cares. Today is the best time to buy hardware. ALWAYS.

nothing I'd be waiting for. 2x1GB DDR500 is available. Opteron 165s are available. All the truly kick-ass ****** is already out. NBT is Socket M2, which is a ways off.

All I know is if you wait long enough, something new and shiny will arrive.

There's nothing wrong with waiting, but make sure that you're waiting for a reasonable amount of time. Otherwise you'll be waiting forever.

thanks for the replies...i figured that was the case, just didn't want to miss out on anythign that might be hitting the stores like tomorrow that would cause a nice price drop on what i'd be ordering tonight ;] ... that's sarcastic but you get the idea.

to the msg above..i'm building a multimedia system..not really gaming.

thanks again!

I am waiting until at least January just because I always feel guilty if I build a new rig less than 3 years after a previous one. Besides, I am hoping the m2 will drop the price of the current X2s. Maybe in a few months, the price of the 4400+ X2 will be at the same cost as the 3800+ X2.

So ya, friends of mine laugh at me now with their brand new 3800+ X2 systems, while I'm sittin here with an old Northy P2.53. In a few months I will be the one laughin with my brand new 4800+ X2 ;)

Battle of e-egos always ends with the one who waits as the winner.

I'd wait. I bought my comp a year ago (used monarch's 10% off by using an amex card) and except for the ram the prices have only dropped slightly. Again, a whole year has elapsed since I bought:

msi neo2 plat (agp)
evga 6800gt
ocz el plat rev 2 (big price drop here)
74gb raptor
amd 3200+ 90nm
cavalier 3 case
450w modstream
xp-90 w/ vantec stealth
xp home

You would think that a bubble is going to burst and prices will start falling soon.
