AUGUSTA -- A mother was arrested after her 2-month-old daughter's right foot was chewed on by a puppy and had to be amputated.

Ashley Marie Padgett, 22, had placed her daughter Cadence to sleep in the afternoon and then went to nap herself, said Sheriff's Lt. James Young.

About an hour later, Padgett woke up to Cadence's crying and discovered her puppy, a Jack Russell terrier mix named Rosco, had apparently jumped into the baby's bassinet and chewed off a part of her foot, Young said.

The baby was taken to the Medical College of Georgia where her right foot was amputated.

Padgett was held on $5,600 bond Wednesday at the Richmond County Jail. She is being charged with contributing to the deprivation of a minor.
🙁

What if this had happened at night, with the mother putting her child to bed then turning in for the night herself. Would she still have been arrested?

Not many people worry about jack russels doing such things, it was not a pit bull or a rott.

Poor kid though. 🙁

I don't get why she was arrested. Like Azraele said, it's not like anyone would think that would happen w/ a jack russel.
