AUGUSTA -- A mother was arrested after her 2-month-old daughter's right foot was chewed on by a puppy and had to be amputated.
Ashley Marie Padgett, 22, had placed her daughter Cadence to sleep in the afternoon and then went to nap herself, said Sheriff's Lt. James Young.
About an hour later, Padgett woke up to Cadence's crying and discovered her puppy, a Jack Russell terrier mix named Rosco, had apparently jumped into the baby's bassinet and chewed off a part of her foot, Young said.
The baby was taken to the Medical College of Georgia where her right foot was amputated.
Padgett was held on $5,600 bond Wednesday at the Richmond County Jail. She is being charged with contributing to the deprivation of a minor.
