Pumpkin Beer!

I...for one...can not stand any kind of beers or ales with pumpkin, squash, or cinnamon flavorings.

If you like that kind of stuff, try Harvest Moon (fall version of Blue Moon). Right up your alley.

Not really a big fan of the Harvest Moon.....the only Blue Moon beer I like is the Pale Moon.

I am a huge fan of Weyerbaucher Pumpkin. I completely agree about the dogfishhead thing and Harvest Moon too.

Nice! The Weyerbaucher was such a nice surprise when I had it. I wasn't expecting much but it was full of flavor and was probably one of the best beers I had in a long time.

I had a pumpkin beer at one of the local brewpubs a few weeks back. It was great, but very intense. Definitely a once-a-year thing.

amen to the pumpkin beer! I just had some Schlafly's Pumpkin Ale. I also actually enjoy the Jack's Pumpkin spiced Ale.

So I had a Weyerbacher Pumpkin Imperial Stout beer yesterday and it was amazing. I went back to the store and they were sold out so I got the Dogfish Head Pumpkin Ale. I have to say the Dogfish was not as impressive as the Weyerbacher. The Weyerbacher had a very distinct pumpkin taste along with hints of nutmeg and spices.

What kind of pumpkin beers do you guys drink?

This is exactly my opinion as well. I've had years where Dogfish Head's Pumpkin was better or worse but I've always preferred Weyerbacher's Imperial Pumpkin. You've gotta try Southern Tier's Pumking. It's easily as good as, if not perhaps better than Weyerbacher's. It's just lovely.

I'm not the biggest fan of Pumpkin beers. I'll have to try the Weyerbacher though if I can come across it here in MN. My landlord and I made some Pumpkin beer about a month ago. It's not bad - just not my cup of tea, er, beer.

I do love the Oktoberfest beers though. So much flavor and so smooth. Oktoberfest season is probably one of the reasons I love fall.

I'll check out the Southen Tier, thanks! I did try the Saranak Pumpkin and it was ok....nothing really to write home about. I have seen the Pumpkin Road in the store and wanted to try it but didn't for some reason.

Pumpkin beers are really hit or miss. the crappy ones taste like someone added cheap candy flavoring to boring beer. There's probably only 2-3 I've had that are worth anything past annoying novelty.

I haven't tried the weyerbacher, mainly because I think most imperial stouts are too syrupy, and I've been disappointed with other beers from them. May give it a shot this year. Same with pumking.

Dogfish head's is always disappointing. really poor showing from a great brewery.

My favorite is Post Road, from Brooklyn brewery. Smuttynose has a decent one too. I had a great one at a beer festival several years ago, from great lakes brewery, that I haven't been able to find since.

But overall the octoberfest beers are much better, and there's more variety.

Post Road is also my favorite. But I disagree on Dogfish, I really like theirs. It's more pumpkin pie, emphasis on pie, than pumpkin flavor but I like it. Basically it's like a spiced ale, not necessarily pumpkin.

Southern Tier makes a great pumpkin. Pumpking I believe it's called. Well, everything Southern Tier makes is top notch.

Marking this thread. I'm looking for some good pumpkin beer. My grocery store only had a few kinds. I got both without really looking at them. One is some crappy Michelob brand and the other was decent. I'll have to go to a real store and get some of the stuff you guys are recommending.

How long do stores usually carry this stuff?
