So I'm looking at WC and I see $100 pumps doing something like 900 l/hr and some pumps doing 400 l/hr. How fast for cooling a quad core at 3.2-3.6 ghz should a pump be? I'm not hung up over noise levels just want some good safe temps for my cpu.

Any experienced WCers have advice? What sort of drop in temps if any would I see between those two pump capacities?

actually a mix of both. You require flow, but to get flow it requires head pressure. 😛

 
Uhhh?😕 Does that mean that I should get a smaller nozzler for the cpu block to increase fluid speed through the block? Or is there something else I'm missing? Sorry for being a newb to this, I just don't want to waste money on something I won't need

head pressure has to do with pump strength.

A pump can have crap head pressure but really good flow. This wont help you.

Head pressure is important because each time you hit a block in your water path, pressure will be cut. Not have enough head pressure, your flow rates will be absolute crap.

Now pumps are mostly rated in flow rates. This is because most of the pumps you look at are submersible.

You want an Inline pump first. Something that doesnt sit in the water. Second you want good head pressure. 3m-6m head is very good.

Flow rate, if you have that much head pressure, your flow rate shouldnt be a problem.


How much you willing to spend on the pump? I would really feel better if you linked the pump b4 you bought it.
 
dtek db-1 12v This is the pump I was looking at but based on the responses about head pressure this one being 2m may not be the way to go. Back to the drawing board.

Any suggestions on a good pump/resevoir combo? I have ordered a d-tek fuzion v2 block to start. I guess the only requirement it looks like is sticking with 1/2" tubing and barbs.

the pump is okey on a gpu loop.

On a cpu loop, maybe with low restriction blocks.

On both cpu and gpu, well your kinda asking for it then.
 
Thanks aigomorla. Here is my total goal. q6700 WC and 9800 GX2 WC. I don't believe that I need to WC my chipset because I'm not going beyond 1600 fsb and it has a pretty good passive cooling system.

Could you recommend a pump for that loop? I'm buying in stages.
So far, I have the dtek fuzion block, tubing, zip ties, 2x120 fans for future 240x120 radiator.

DDC-3.2 /w xspc res/top

Swiftech MCP-355 = DDC-3.2

XSPC res/top is an aftermarket top which you replace.

Makes the entire unit an absolute monster performer.

aigoz.... anyhow i ment to say, check out jab-tech under pumps. You'll see what im talking about.
 
either MCP655 or DDC3.5. both have good pressure/flow rate

MCP655 if you have plenty of room in your case, DDC3.5 if you need to save room as much as possible.

I run MCP655 as lots of others do, and run CPU and GPU block with no issues
 
i like 655's.

There the tanks of the h2o world. Well maybe more of an APC and my Iwaki is the tank.


However the DDC3.2 has been showing itself as a pretty good pump. Paired up with that top, the 655 has no chance at catching it.
 
Thanks for the responses. I'm considering the DDC3.5 and ek-DDC X-Res combo due to spacing concerns.

The EK's have a nasty bleeding issue. More like a vortex issue.

The XSPC Res/TOP is what i was recomending.

Thanks for the link. I was unaware there were issues with reservoirs. The XSPC has greater capacity than what I was looking at anyway. Just have to wait out my next paycheck! 😀

I did not like the EK cuz it has a uber nasty vortex issue:
