so I have seen Pulse, and um.... not much to say.
I won't spoil the story, but let me review what is commonly known. First off, a virus is discovered that taunts people to interact with the dead, and what haunts these people who come into contact with the virus, comes from the signals of all communication, namingly the wireless signals. wherever these signals exist, the 'beings' can come through.
I used to not be easily frightened, but this movie made me jump and tense up quite a bit. Sadly, everything was completely predictable if you have ever seen the common US horror film. The Japanese film (Kairo) received high praise from those who have seen it, but apparently Wes Craven doesn't translate very well, at least it didn't seem so.
What kills the entire movie is the way the movie wraps itself up. The story kind of jumps down your throught with an ending that sums up what the whole movie was hinting at, and you would think that would make it easier to swallow. However, there was no way one could prepare to even be spoonfed the crap that is the end of this movie, and it destroys anything the previous scenes of the movie offered up.
In the end, this movie is one to watch for thrills alone, if you don't mind knowing ahead where everything is going to happen. If you don't watch horror movies regularly, this might work really well on you. My girl doesn't like horror movies and this got her going. It was probably funny when I was dissecting it after watching it, because she thought it was scary. The other two staff in the screening laughed. I watched it and got my thrills from it, while they got nothing at all out of it. Guess it takes someone who can get a thrill from any horror movie, no matter the quality, to watch this.
