Pulled one of the motors out of my friends exciter, and once we got the top end apart look at how we found the cylinder..

sorry for the small pic, only had his digi at the time.

edit: for clarification the pic is taken looking down at the engine with the cylinders pulled off and the piston tilted 90 degrees. And the motors an 1100 2 stroke oil injected.

Looks like you will be needing some oversize rings in the future :p

for some reason the oil line got plugged (thats what were assuming) the other motor never ran dry. Not sure exactly what happened to it, the other two cylinders on that motor are fine also. Its a 98 i think so no warranty:p. He stopped driving when it was running kind of funny..and that was why.

lol..see the big groves and notches out of the piston? it is supposed to be as smooth as a silicon boobie, not as rough as chewed on gorilla nipples.

Agreed.

Even without oil I don't see his happening. I mean WTF!!!

Piston would've have had to wobble to such a point that an edge dug into the side.

The block has to be toast.

That didn't just happen. The piston rings are totally expose...Gorilla nipple indeed. :D

One of the more important things to do when running a high output 2-stroke is reading the spark plugs.

An oldster like me needs a magnifying glass. Hold the plug so the sun shines down to the base of the insulator for the center electrode, look for any signs of aluminum. The alloy,as it is coming off the piston will melt onto the hot insulator
forming tiny, silvery, splash marks. Sometimes itty bitty silver balls will form if the motor was not full on the power band.
I know this is after the fact. I just felt like spouting off.. ;) This way problems are caught early on.
