What do you mean by "passing me at one point, for about 10 minutes"?

Do you mean he was following you?

in some states you can get in trouble for having a radar detector, and its a bigger fine than obstruction of view.

Virginia, DC and some big western state (Oregon?). Everyone who owns an RD knows this. My RD has already saved me many times its value in speeding tickets. I really could care less, since I almost never drive through those states anyway.

Not Oregon, they're legal here, it's California.

It's not California. It's only illegal to have a radar jammer or laser jammer here.

I think jammers are illegal everywhere. I'm sure I heard years ago that detectors were illegal in Cali. Maybe they used to be but aren't anymore?

Last night, driving on a local highway here (dead highway, only car on the road), I got pulled over by a cop who was passing me at one point, for about 10 minutes, before he just nailed me.

Needless to say, he asked me all these questions: where you going, do you have drugs or alcohol in your car, what are those (points to earplugs in glove compartment). Then he says "I stopped you for two reasons: the first is because you have something hanging from your mirror, which is obstruction of view." He then asked if I had any points on my license, I said no. He went back to his car, never told me the second reason, and then came back, handed me my stuff, and left.

WTF

What town and which highway? NJ State Trooper or township police?

I was in the right hand lane, he was in the left hand lane, going the same speed as me, right next to me. If I slowed down he slowed down. Looks like he was trying to pass me but never did.

Ive been 'paced' like that before. The guy was hanging right in my blind spot. I put up with it for about 30 seconds before dropping to about 10 under. He was egging me to speed up because theres no way with the headlights that I could tell it was an unmarked car. He went on and got some other smuck.

My dad got pulled over for a drunk check one time in this po-hick town. He had been turning around in his seat to threaten us kids in the back. Turns out he went to the acadamey with the patrol officers supervisor so they BS'd for like half and hour.

Got paced again in Maryland for the license plate light (an night obviously). I think he had to look pretty hard becuase the other one worked pretty well. I wasn't wise enough to slow down on that one. I just stayed right at 3-4 over the limit. It ticked him off pretty good since he basically yelled at my wife to shut up when she blurted out 'what'd you pull us over for' He wanted to see how licqured up I was I guess.

All in all Ive been pulled over about 4 or 5 times with no tickets. Honestly I dont see how people go more than a couple years without getting pulled over once or twice for a check.

long ago, i got pulled over for no apparent reason. cop told me that my car resembled a vehicle that had just fled the scene of an armed robbery. I asked him why, if he suspected i was an armed criminal, did he not draw his weapon when approaching or call for backup, or anything? since he was pretty much busted he admitted he was just playing the odds on finding something to issue a ticket. i got his badge/vehicle number and wrote the city council, not that it did any good.

AFAIK the only state they are still illegal for passenger vehicles is Virginia ... for large trucks they are now illegal in many states, including NY.

Edit: After a quick Google, they are illegal in DC for passenger vehicles too AND in all 50 states for commercial vehicles over 10k lbs.

The last time I got pulled over for speeding and got a ticket, the cop's first questions was to ask me where the fire was??

Luckily, it was going over the San Mateo bridge, and the fastest he was able to clock me was 70......when I disappeared over the top of the 2nd rise of the bridge, and he lost sight of me.

70+ in a 55 sure beat the 100+ in a 55 that I was doing!! ;)

In California it's illegal to have ANYTHING stuck to the front, side or back windows (except rear view mirror of course). http://law.onecle.com/california/vehicle/26708.html

yep so basically any sticker counts too, so every car with a college sticker on the window is in violation

I wonder if my "Supporter of the Fraternal Order of Police" sticker I got in MD is illegal :)
or my "Semper Fi" sticker in my back window

talk about the best 2 "get out a ticket free cards" :)

edit: the only exception seems to be
Signs, stickers, or other materials which are displayed in a 7-inch square in the lower corner of the windshield farthest removed from the driver, signs, stickers, or other materials which are displayed in a 7-inch square in the lower corner of the rear window farthest removed from the driver, or signs, stickers, or other materials which are displayed in a 5-inch square in the lower corner of the windshield nearest the driver.

ROFL, next time I get pulled over I'm going to ask if it's for a violation of California Vehicle Code Section 26708.

You canted be legally pulled over for tinted windows, they can only cause a ticket if you are ALREADY pulled over for something else. But i get your point.

Radar jammers are illegal by FCC regulation so federal law=everywhere. Laser jammers emit visible light which cannot be controled by the FCC, so they're only illegal by local/state law.

It really must depend on the place. I've never been pulled over for a drunk check and I do plenty of late night driving.

Yep, 34,000 is the max! 35,800 is not looked upon lightly. :p

You'd be surprised at how agile I was at that weight.
