Pulled 939 out of socket without opening the handle

I didn't open the small handle on the 939 processor I pulled otu because the heatsink got in the way and couldn't be removed (thermal paste). The motherboard keeps running great with a different processor though. Could the processor I pulled out be damaged in any sort of way?

What is the correct procedure for processor removal in such cases - when the heatsink gets in the way and can't be separated??

Thanks!

Twist it back and forth several times before lifting it straight up. There's not much room in the bracket, but it's enough to loosen it a bit.

I've done that before. Quite scary, but it can happen.

Think of it this way, hold out one of your fingers and then wrap your other hand around it tightly. Try to pull out your finger without loosening your grip and you will more then likely have to yank it out. In the end, your finger is still there and working fine. However, sometimes the grip may be so tight that you may accidentally pull your finger out of its socket.

It also helps immensely if you remove the fan, then heat the heatsink well with a blow-dryer, before you start twisting. Twist slowly with as little force as possible. It will take several twists to break suction.
