No, he's really not. You are the idiot for thinking that it's anything less than he's described it. Try going through military training, not even the real thing and see what you think afterwards. When you're sitting out there on the field, taking rounds from downrange but you still have to take the objective, what are you going to do? I've done things like that only in training so far, with paint bullets, and still had problems forcing my body to move from safety into the direct line of fire. Anyone that is honestly excited about the war is sadly mistaken, and most likely not ever been in the service whatsoever. Remember this: Even if we take minimal casualties, that still means thousands of US troops are going to lose their lives for the cause. What if one of them was your dad, or brother, or uncle? How would you feel to recieve the visit from their CO delivering the message that they died in combat, that he only thing you'll ever see of them again is the flag they draped over his coffin when he was buried? Still excited abotu the war?

It's okay, he can't actually be forced to think about anything beyond what happens on his television set. It's all he's capable of. ;)

I hope he learns from his mistakes.

I don't think many of us here really want war, it is more of a resigned thing. Saddam has dicked around too much and has to be stopped. Yes, I am excited by military equipment and would not be telling the truth if seeing war footage on CNN did not excite me at all, but I do know what goes on. Almost my whole family has served in the military (I can't right now as I am getting married but I am going to join the reserves after we get settled down).

I aplogize if we have been to insensitive to the true horrors of war, I think we all just hope for a better world after it. I thank God every day in my prayers for the men and women who protect this country and my ability to live in freedom.

This time it will probably be even more lopsided, since most of the "war" will consist of us bombing the hell out of them from the sky. I'm not trying to downplay the job our soldiers have, but they sure have it a hell of a lot easier than the Iraqis do. Our guys have FAR superior equipment and training.

Edit: As far as I'm concerned, this shouldn't even be called a "war"... massacre is probably a better word.

i agree. It isnt like we're storming the beaches of Normandy or taking Okinawa again. Anytime America goes to war anymore its pretty much watch the laser guided missles take out the objective on CNN.
I'm not saying I dont hope for the best for our soldiers, but they signed up for this job. You dont go into the military to be a specialist in basket weaving. You know damned good and well what you may be called upon to do.
No, i have never been in the military. I had some 4 family members who have been IN WAR. 1 was my Uncle, who as a tank commander in WWII was lost behind enemy lines for a few days. He and his tank crew even captured a few German prisoners. He wouldnt, COULDNT, talk about it for some 50 YEARS after the experience. And from what I have heard, I dont want to go through that. I highly admire those who do sign up, and you have my respect and prayers. But you knew what you were signing, and it wasnt a college admission with cush dorm rooms and 4 hours worth of homework a week.

I also think we shouldnt be sending our troops to liberate a country of "oppressed" people who wont thank us anyways, and think we're some horrid form of the devil.

I have to agree with HP to a certain extent...a lot of posts I have seen do seem to glorify things, have seen many people who sound like they are looking forward to war, because they feel they that the UN forces who will be going there are totally unstoppable and will just prove how great nations like the US are...

Yes...we probably will win....but forces fighting for Sadam are gonna have their backs against a wall....and they are gonna fight to the death, taking many of our boys with them no doubt.....

I can see the HP got a bit angered by hit because he probably knows what it's like....I would never pretend to know....
