I'm running winxp on my workstation. The linux (suse8.0) box runs samba, email and webserver. I've moved all "My Documents" to my linux share and the xp box can get into the share with no problems. Until that is, I try to get into the public_html folder.
For some reason, that folder takes on average 30 seconds to open. Once I'm inside, I can navigate the folders within just fine, nice and snappy response. If I navigate out, and then try to go to /homes/username/public_html it takes another 30 seconds. This is also the case if I'm in the linux machine. I can cd into the home directory very quickly but as soon as I cd /public_html it stalls for about 20 or 30 seconds.
The linux box can surf at top speed and connect to all the other machines in my lan no problem. The webserver is fairly fast, and I can transfer files back and forth between the two boxes at full speed, just as long as the public_html folder is not involved. I can ssh from the windows box to the share with no lag at all, but if I cd /public_html it lags.
Could the permissions relating to the public_html folder slow down access to it?
This is frustrating since transferring and editing files for my webserver is ssssssllllllloooooooowwwwww.
