Public restroom sinks - clean or not?

I'll admit it - I'm a germaphobe.

In spite of that, this morning I saw something that surely can't be ok with the rest of the world. Someone here at work was filling the coffee pot in the men's restroom sink. At other times, I've seen people wash their faces in public restroom sinks, and even put their mouths on the spigot and take a drink.

So decide, ATOT: filthy or not?

it is fine. your GI tract is hard core.

plus, this country is great about providing potable water everywhere. no, if he took a crap, fingered his arse and swirled it in the coffee pot, then i would be worried.

I wouldn't do that here. And I work in a government office building. The other people here are slobs, and there is no way I trust any surface in this building to be clean!

:thumbsup:Lysol and hand sanitizer.....

a drinking fountain? that has mouths on it too, and seems like it would take forever to fill the coffee pot there.

it's ok to be wary of germs, but do know that you weaken your immune system if you limit your germ exposure too severely.

dude. you've got issues.

You're ok with drinking straight from a public bathroom spigot?
Is the water any different that comes from the public drinking fountain?

No, but neither is the water in the toilet bowl. What are you saying?

ya wanna know something that has stuck in my mind since the day i read it? as part of a class project this student analyzed the bacteria in the ice at a fast food joint as compared to the bacteria in the water in the (flushed) toilet bowl there. guess where more bacteria was found. . .

does your coffee pot boil it anyway? if so it does not matter. it boils away the nasties.

I dunno... I've seen some strange things on more than one occasion in the restrooms at work in the form of people taking "sink showers" (washing their pits/faces), taking a giant farmer blow, spitting out a chew, etc... all in the sink people use to wash their hands. I felt bad for the poor sap who came along later in the day and was brushing his teeth in the same sink. Sadly, I work in a downtown office building for a fortune 100 company so it's not like we're out in the sticks where people don't have running water or other amenities at home.

As long as none of the previously mentioned farmer blow boogers, dirty pit water or chew splash got up on the sink nozzle I suppose the tap water is as good a source as any for officecoffee since it is heated enough to kill off any errant germs. Still...

water for coffee - eww

washing face - need more info? did they fill the sink up with water and use that water or just using water straight from the spigot? if the latter, i see no problem.

putting mouth on spigot - EWWWWW

a bathroom is not a clean place, even more so for a public one.
