Public Internet Access in San Diego?

I'm going to San Diego for a week in a few days and I need to have Internet access. I have a Macintosh laptop I will be bringing along. I would be satisfied with a wireless access point (Starbucks?) or a dialup place (the hotel will probably charge a minutely rate?), or a public place like a cyber cafe or library. Is there a University I could leech off of that has lax security perhaps?

I see the public library has computer access, but I was wonder what other places I could access and perhaps "the best place". My needs consist of being able to access a web browser and use execute PuTTY off of a floppy disk (or download from the web, whatever).

Any suggestions? Man, why should I have to worry about this? It seems like it should easier to get access. *sigh* I guess I need to invest in some more expensive gadgets/services.

Anyway, any tips would be appreciated. Thanks...

Because I have a feeling the hotel phone access rates are insane. I will have to do this, though, if I don't find a decent free/cheap solution.

Many nicer hotels actually have "data ports" in the rooms that you can plug into.

The currect charges for local calls are $0.75 each. Then there are time charges that start after "X" minutes. These are not exorbitant fees - sort of the costr of doing business. Some hotels now have a flat fee for a broadband connection to their LAN. That is the better deal. There are always Internet Cafes around.

Cost of doing business? Phone lines are cheap. Granted they're business lines, but I still think they've making out like bandits. I can handle a connect fee, but why a minutely fee? It's not costing them anything if I'm connected a minute or all day, is it? (assuming it's a local call).
