Seems like the public is just dissatisfied, government to them seems to be out of touch with their wants/needs.

And at the same time, the public would go bonkers if politicians started putting real change in place.

I can't imagine the President cares all too much about his popularity ratings right now. It's not like he can run for re-election.
Overall, according to the NBC/Journal poll, 52 percent believe the nation is headed in the wrong direction, while 35 percent think it?s on the right track.
To make things more interesting, they should have a poll to count the number of those people who also have ideas on how to change that directio, and what to change it to.

Well, we'll see if that translates to an Election Revolution next year and the really big test will be 2008.

As far as a real Civil War?

Well, not enough people knocked out of the middle class yet to the lower levels, but it is still steadily heading there.

Bush knows a huge portion of the Country (Middle Class) is tetering on the edge so he has asked the financial juggler (Greenspan) to stick around longer than his January retirement.

Today's demonstration in Houston is a good example of possible Civil War.

It could still happen between now and Nov 2008, time will tell, time will tell.

This was bad news across the board for Bush, Iraq, economy, judges ... and Congress. I found this especially encouraging:
?The public is exceptionally displeased with the Congress,? Hart said. ?It is [its] lowest set of numbers since May of 1994,? the year when congressional Republicans defeated their Democratic counterparts in the midterm elections to take control of both the House and Senate. According to this poll, by 47 percent to 40 percent the public says it would prefer Democrats controlling Congress after the 2006 elections.
Bush is a lame duck. His political capital is rapidly evaporating. His destructive agenda is starting to damage his party. With any luck at all, the smart Republicans will soon abandon him to save their own hides.

I find this hilarious because this same post was probably posted about this time last year and look what happened.

While people are probably pissed with the way things are going in DC atm, what the hell else is new? The question is can democrats come out of cheapshot mode and present a viable alternative?

What is worse is the democrats cant and wont and thus even in a time of apparent discontent with Washington the democrats cant make up ground.

btw heard Dean is doing a wonderful job. I heard Republicans are fundraising at a rate of about 2:! compared to democrats since Dean took over.

But...but...but....the President is a "great uniter"! He told us he was going to "reach out to the other side". I simply cannot understand why the public would be such an angry electorate.

Kind of hard to reach out to the other side when they have their back to you.

I guess one thing is for sure, the propaganda spewed on a daily basis by the MSM is finally starting to take its toll.

Congress has wrong priorities
McInturff, the GOP pollster, points out that Americans are upset with Congress focusing on the battle over judges, Social Security, trying to restore Terri Schiavo?s feeding tube and the ethical troubles surrounding their members, including Rep. Tom DeLay, R-Texas, instead of focusing on the economy, gas prices and health care.

?There are some core day-to-day issues that they don?t see being addressed,? he said. ?The people want us to head in a different direction and hear different things.?

I don't think the GOP gets it. The public doesn't want their social, economic, judicial, moral policies. The only reason they are in power is WoT. They have no mandate to do anything else.

I find this amazing considering they were voted into office 6 months ago by these voters.
Are you claiming a victory in 06 already?

Excuse me if I say I have heard this song and dance before.

1. How about not throwing hundreds of billions away on a failed war based on lies.

2. Do not start said war in the ME, which might just affect fuel prices

3. Don't give the richest Americans tax cuts while simultaneaously driving up the defict to record levels

4. Create jobs that pay well, not just unskilled low wage positions

If the Republicans think they were voted in because the people support their SS policies, or want strict conservative judges, or the culture of life, they got a wake up call coming. They were elected because the people felt more comfortable with them wrt to the WoT.
Don't believe me, fine. I don't care. You'll get hammered on SS like you got hammered on Terry Schiavo "Culture of Life" B.S. and the ethics rule changes.

i think the 'SS can be fixed with minor changes' people can't do math. unfortunately, neither can most of the US public. it's way easier to say something demonizing changes to SS that would actually fix the problem and being a popular demogogue than trying to fix it.

It is looking good for a change next election. If the Dem's are lucky enought to get control of the Senate back Bush won't be a lame duck, he'll be a dead duck!!

Corporations, Churches and the Rich are in the back pockets of the Republican party so of course they will blow the doors off the Dems at Findraising.

Pass the plate.

Doesn't matter....there will be another big "gay" outrage brought out....or more preaching to the voters....or a few more terror alerts right before the 06 election. The same group will keep their positions, IMO>

Things wont change in 2006 or 2008. Republicans are masters at creating some issue in their favor. And the people have short memories, they cant remember what happened last week let alone in 2004.
The only way democrats can win and get ahead is to find really good people to run.
There out there, they just have to run.
Liberals shouldnt hide or pretend not to be.
Michael Moore, Al Franken would and should run for senate. That would be a start.

Creating issues or crisis? I believe its the latter and that my Republican Party as I knew it twenty years ago is dead.
