PT800 vs. i865PE

Hi,

I heard that PT800 is faster than 865pe(the chip)

but i want to know (let say ASUS), will this board has the same wide connectivity, support, interface like 865pe?

I mean, does ASUS Pt800 has IEEE, sata raid, pata raid, dual channel, blah blah blah,

cuz Pt800 is way cheaper than 865pe and faster? what is the down side of Pt800?

The PT800 is not faster. It is only a single Ch memory controller. NOW the PT880 is as fast or faster the most 865 chipsets. BUT from what I have read it doe snot overclock as well.

If you want a board that is cheap, as fast or faster then the 875 chipset, and overclcoks pretty good then look at a 655TX chipset board. Newegg.com has a Asus 655tx board for $103 shipped.

Now if you want REALLY cheap and as fast as a 865 board then look at a PT880 board by VIA. Cost around $69 at newegg.com and is a dual Ch memory board.

so u r saying Asus 655tx is faster(or as fast) as 875P?
and with all the stuffs better like OC?

in my mind, i thought fast>slow : i875P, i865PE, others...

i thought those are the fastest where others are alternatives.

now i need to research for new motherbaord again

just been to www.futuremark.com for the ORB...

most of result on first page use 875P, whether a ABIT IC7-MAX3 or Asus P4C800

so are they really that fast?

Yea the best P4 board IMO right now would be the Asus P4S800D-E Deluxe

The SIS chip is very fast, but does not overclock well. My P4P800-D (i865pe) is capable of over 270fsb with little voltage increase and the P4S800 isn't known for exceeding 250fsb max. (We are talking air cooled here)

i do OC at least a bit.

Being the best is a relative statement. For $105 the P4S800D-E Deluxe offers almost everything that the P4C800-E does except exceptional overclocking. Now the P4c800 costs $178. So is that worth $73 to you ? Bear in mind that not all Cpu's overclock the same, you could end up with a proc that will only OC a little. Next you will need to spend more on memory to get that higher OC.

Is it the best ? yes. There is no $105 mb that can touch the P4S800D-E Deluxe

Keep in mind the memory speed that can affect your overclock. The SiS boards don't seem to OC as well as the highend 875 boards for both CPU and Memory like the IC7-G, Max 3 or Asus P4C800-E. If you are going with a 2.4 and are trying for 275MHz FSB or better I would go with an 875. But for the money you might be better off with the P4S800 and get a 2.8 and better memory. Look at what your performance/budget target range is and balance mobo, cpu and memory - not to mention video.

hey, Is the P4S800-E Dual Channel supported?

I see reviews that when it comes to memory test, it just scores like a Single Channel moboard.

so what u are saying is if I don't overclock at all, then i should get this motherboard?

then why i875 and 865 that popular? being higher price and not providing the fastest performance although a wider hardware support may be...

what is the difference btwn a P4S800D-E Deluxe and a P4S800 Deluxe?

so I've checked that it does support Dual Channel on a P4S800 Deluxe(SiS655TX) but will it score lower compare to 875 in memory test?

One of the reasons why the 865/875 boards are popular is that they have been out for awhile and have proven to be very stable. VIA and SiS are known for making less expensive chipsets than Intel, not necesarily better ones. The 655FX and PT880 chipsets look pretty good so far but they have both had a lot of time to get them right. Sure Intel has a time advantage on chipsets since they are designing the processors, but their stability/reliability is why most people go with them. If SiS and VIA hadn't had issues in the past (not that Intel hasn't - 820 anybody?) they might have better presence. A single chipset mistake affects them much more than Intel since they lack they large OEM presence and R&D capability to relatively quickly come out with a better chipset. Many of the motherboard manufacturers such as Asus and Abit have had much faster extreme overclocking boards with Intel chipsets compared with SiS and VIA chipsets over the past couple of years - look at the BH-6, BH-7 or the P4C800 and IC7-Max series for examples. And of course there is the infamous Intel marketing machine - second only to Microsoft and presidential candidate publicists at clouding the water meaningless facts that hide the important issues.
