PT Crusier ?

I have a 02, wifey was driving home today and when she was real close to home it started to overheat. I got home, there was nothing in the radiator, told the garage it was coming, its pretty close. cranked it over and the was a hissing noise, through a cut on a hose that runs between the valve cover and air intake assembly, It looks like it a 1/2 hose, I stuck my thumb on hose and the car ran better.

2 questions, 1 what is the hose and would it have anything to do with the car overheating?

That sounds like the PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) hose. The hissing was a vacuum leak. A big enough vacuum leak will make the car run badly.

But that hose has nothing to do with whether there's coolant in the radiator. Did you fill it up before you took it to the shop? If so, did any leak out?

Now, if the radiator wasn't totally empty, here's another possibility: A vacuum leak causes a lean condition. If an engine is lean enough, it will overheat. Although I've not head of your specific situation, it's technically possible.

Makes sense, filled up an ran to the garage, but didn't look at it, just curious seems like an odd combination to break at the same time.

Works that way, sometimes. So you saw no coolant leaking?

Not that I could tell but that doesn't mean much, They got that thing stuffed in there.
