Psychopaths get a terrible rap in the media and society in general

I don't expect there to be any defenders of psychopaths but, considering this is an (anti-social) personality disorder, I think a few things need to be said. Dexter may not be the best place to start but it's following the precedent set by movies like Hannibal (and it's what I saw recently that made me decide to post this). No, psychopaths do not go around eating or killing people. That's just stupid.

As for the other things attributed to psychopaths, most of them are true. However, there are a few misunderstandings. For example, psychopaths do wear a mask. But it's not a "mask of sanity" as has been popularized by books. They just wear an emotional mask in order to shield their true feelings. Why? Because psychopaths are control freaks. They are always thinking, always aware of their disposition and their surroundings. Always watching. They want to control everything and do not like to be controlled. Most importantly, they are aware of the emotions of those around them. So, the emotion they convey to others is not the same as how they truly feel. They are not cold and calculating but just calculating. But behind that mask are feelings like any other.

Getting back to Dexter, one part of the show is true. Psychopaths are ultimately destructive. If you get their attention they will fuck with you emotionally until you're exhausted and become their plaything. But, as with any plaything, they eventually become tired of you and will move on. They are natural psychologists and understand human nature very very well. This can make them appear intelligent but that may not be necessarily so (G-d help those who have to deal with intelligent psychopaths...). So it's best to keep them at a distance. If you HAVE to be around them it's best to mask your emotions because that's how they read you. But it's a long game they play so keep your interaction with them at a minimum because you won't outlast them. Luckily, psychopaths have a short attention span so they may get bored quickly. Psychopaths crave danger and aggression so you will find them in the most dangerous fields or at the highest levels. But they don't last long because they are always pushing the boundaries.

But, again, they don't go around eating or killing people for fun.

Yeah, the poor psychopaths, they are so misunderstood...

Whether they wear a mask or not almost doesn't matter it's the way they interact with others that does.

CEO's as a group are something like 4X as likely to have psychopath traits -- that explains the ease with which a workforce can be terminated so as to move to where labor is cheaper.

Big time serial killers are ALL psychos and have demonstrated little or no remorse for their victims.

Yeah, my heart breaks for folks without one...

One thing I've noticed about people. Once you cut them open, they all look the same.

They do it for nourishment and population control.

Yah... if they stepped up their game a few thousand percent, they could add 'assist in controlling the human impact on Global Warming'. :what:

Some psychopaths use that control to make other people go away, rather than put the energy into emotionally exhausting or destroying someone.

And if someone likes you, they're more likely to be compliant in the future, or, depending on how to set it up, more likely to leave you be.

You also don't need to be aware of others' emotions. Depending on what's going on, it can end up just amounting to noise.

Send all the psychopaths off to war.
The good psychopaths would convince you to go to war in their place.
This has happened quite frequently in our species' history.

I don't remember where I saw that, that CEOs and criminal psychopaths have a lot of personality traits in common.
One just isn't followed around by any (known) history of murder.

(If they were proper murderous psychopathic control freaks, you'd think that they'd be better at covering their tracks. I guess that's where their ego works against them.)

I believe that EVERYONE has a little bit of crazy in them......just takes time to find out what type of crazy they are (at times YEARS).

But I have never met a human being that was perfect in that regard......and chances are I never will either.

Label it whatever you want, we all have it.

What does that make employees that don't believe people poorer than them deserve their jobs?

Not all are bad. Psychopaths make up 1% of the general population.

Send all the psychopaths off to war.

Psychopaths are notoriously unloyal. They do things out of self-interest instead of for others.

There are dumb psychopaths. The smart ones don't get caught or get bored so they play games with the authorities.

I'm so glad I blocked him like 3 months ago.

You should look at his post history. The measures of brainwashing. I just finished the Boston Bomber Rolling Stone article. Somehow this tread reminded me of it again.

gee! You arguing for psychopaths? gee who would have thought it!?...anyone actually..

You helping your "friend" murder a women unborn child

asking IF you can fly when wanted by police

Thinks Sex slaves were OK?

fuck there are others. but think i got my point across.
I'm laughing at what you used to search for these threads. highlight=chemicals+abort

Some of the most successful people are psychopaths because they manage to get the most out of people. They can fake sincerity very well, they make excellent salesmen, they are skilled at gaining trust by playing people like it's some kind of game.

Am I the only one that thinks it might be interesting to lock Dari and Moonbeam, alone, in a room together for 72 hours?
