I don't know if anyone else has them yet, but Blockbuster is getting a supply of them in for rent--$19.99 for a 2 controller PS2 for 5-days (in the nifty plastic suitcase), only catch is they stick a $200 auth on your CC (until you return it, then it it's removed).

Sounds like a HOT deal to me:

PS2
2 controllers
nifty Blockbuster carrying case

just $219!!!!

heh,

That psx2 deal is insane, although in general I'd have to disagee. Buyrite1 is a great store. I deal with them all the time, and their customer service is top notch.

Their rarities are priced at a premium often times, but, their import games are bargain basement priced...generally at least 30% cheaper than local import stores, and generally cheaper than their US shelf price (if they come out over here). What other place can you get 4 for $10 SNES games? Most of their used games are quite a bit cheaper than any other place you can find too.

Dis them all you want, but, they're a quality biz to me.

That mod brick page is pretty clever. Wish I could think of silly stuff like that to throw up on the web. What I really want to know is how many people sent money to the North Pole.

<edit>Damn, you guys beat me to it. Thread growing fast... Anyway, we could get them for 219 and then root around rich kids houses for boxes and then e**bay them for 1000 dollars as New In Box :) ... talk about immoral.</edit>

Cougarls88: Only a $200 auth on your credit card? Seems to me like that's the cheapest way to get a ps2 :) ... truly a hot deal!

Blockbuster Goon: "Sir, we need you to return your PS2."
Me: "Uhhh.... I uhhhh... lost it."
Blockbuster Goon: "hahaha, we will ruin your entire credit record!"
Me: "Just take the $200 credit..."
Blockbuster Goon: "Drat! Foiled again!"

So you are only out $220 for a ps2, 2 controllers, cables, and I'm guessing the rental comes with a game too (the n64 one did). I think this works because I remember people getting the gold Zelda64 this way when it was hard to find. Only like $50 to replace. I think the deal with blockbuster is that they only charge their replacement fee if you lose a title (at least with videogames... they get most of their movies for free anyway). They want to recoup their losses, but not lose their customer. It seems like $200 is about what the cost would be to blockbuster since Sony wants to let them have it cheap for obvious reasons.

The emf from that modbrick would totally screw up your TV btw... I doubt that product would be accepted by the FCC :)

And just in case you thought it was real, be sure to send your check or COD to:
Modbrick.com, Inc.
c/o S. Claus
1 North Pole Lane
Arctic Glacier UR 3R3-37
O. M. G.

FYI, I've looked into the Blockbuster Scam (many others thought of it loooooong ago).
Anyway, the $200 they put on the card is a deposit. If you lose it, they charge an additional $200 plus $60 in late fees.
So, you can, legally, go the block buster way, and end up paying around $480.
Then again, this will suddenly become a luke warm deal for a used, opened PS2.

I've played the PS2 a couple times... I think the graphics are awesome! For anyone who is a doubter, just leave Madden 2001 on demo mode and see how long people watch before realizing it's not Monday Night Football. As for the DVD playback, I tried watching Shawshank Redemption on it and it looked a little dark to me, but all around smooth. Plus, you can't beat the corded remote :)

This may be a little OT (for this thread), but anyone know where Blockbuster gets those hard shell cases? I had several family members say that's an excellent idea (keeps everything in one place, and from getting smashed).

I've seen those hard cases either at EBWorld.com or Outpost.com, I can't remember which, I think it's EBWorld that had them.

I bought from burite once. Not a bad experience. You can have them send you an order COD (I did) if you're really concerned.

They are a $500 value if you would ever consider paying retail price for anything other than TTT, Madden, SSX, and Unreal Tournament. Notice how the required games all suck :)

Also, anyone notice how no retailers (well, reputable ones) are marking up the ps2, yet tons of retailers (even buy.com) are selling overpriced "bargain packs" of ps2's with games/dvd remotes/strategy guides? Seems to me like Sony really has retailers held by the balls with their pricing controls. I knew they did this with more expensive consumer electronics (ex: retailers are not allowed to advertise a sony tv below MSRP unless specifically authorized), but not with something so trivial as the ps2. I thought price fixing was illegal... oh well, it just means cheaper ps2's for everyone who wants them.
