I am getting a SUPERMICRO MBD-X8DAL-i-O Dual LGA 1366 Intel 5500 ATX Dual Intel Xeon 5500 and 5600 Series , and it needs dual 8 pin. What PSUs do this ? Preferably 800 watt or more (1100 preferred).

This must be high quality, but not $500

Isn't that the PSU mod here ??

And is this worth $30 more ?

Personal pride, preference, whatever, would prevent me from putting any power supply that was labeled CoolerMaster into any omputer I was to keep/use. While its true this one example did get a recommendation, the name CM on the side of a power supply typically doesn't engender confidence in it.......so just like the blind squirrel finding an occasional acorn, while that CM unit is good, the brand overall is horrible.

As for the Corsair AX1200, darned good unit. I'd look into buying that one myself. My only problem with it is the lack of rails with such a large +12V output. Since the OCP is set to at least 100A (has to be because it's a single rail unit, so its overcurrent protection---if it even has that---has to be set at least 1A higher than its max combined output. So that means if there is a 12V short anywhere in your computer, the potential exists that the entire 100A could be fed into that short.

The ultra high output power supplies are cases in point for the inclusion for multiple rails and OCP's set to a reasonable level, like 30A on 25A rails....like on that Silverstone unit.

But that Corsair is an excellent unit and humbles the XFX/Seasonic M12D designed units. While the M12D units are great power supplies, Corsair working with the OEM of the AX1200, Flextronics, have together produced an industry leading power supply---currently----1% voltage regulation throughout the entire +12V output range, 2% regulation on the minor rails throughout their output ranges, outstanding overbuilt construction, <30mV ripple/noise, little else really compares to this one. Of course, you pay for it. But it's a single rail unit and that goes back to having 100A of +12V able to short to a single spot......not comforting in some scenarios.

BTW.......why aren't you considering the EVGA SR-2 for your motherboard? You still get the two cpu sockets but gain overclocking abilities.

Not to mention the limited lifetime warranty.
