SpeedFan error and the possible PSU deficiency

GALVANIZED YANKEE -- I've gotten lazy in my old age, and used to study pin-out diagrams and make occasional modifications myself -- no electrician or electrical engineer, but I learned to use a soldering gun.

You mentioned jumpering the green and black wires on the 20-pin ATX plug. I was always put off by PSU's designed to fire up off the motherboard, and wondered how you could use a spare PSU to power something outside the case, just by flipping its toggle "I | O" switch.

Is that all I have to do? I'll probably look for some anemic PSU discard to power a couple fans and a water-pump or two.

Not exactly the greatest way of figuring it out, but which one is heavier? The heavier one probably has more components dedicated to power filtration, and bigger heatsinks.
