I'm not looking for advice on which PSU to buy. What I'd like to know, is which to avoid. Who's making the total crap units?

thanks,
Jacito

Hmm, I think there's room for highly subjective answers here - anecdotal, mostly.

Brands that come to mind are Coolmax, Linkworld, Raidmax, Deer, among others.

IMO, it's easier to point out the good, reliable names than the crap ones.

OK then, I need one that will handle a single 8600GT, 1 SATA hard drive, and 1 or 2 CD/DVD drives. My MB is a AMD based Gigabyte GA-MA78G-DS3H.

there are so many that should be avoided, that it is just easier to suggest ones for you to buy.

Then I'll repeat myself:

How much are you looking to spend? An Antec Earthwatts 380 Watt would be plenty for that setup, although often you can get the Earthwatts 430 Watt for the same price or less. If you are looking to spend more then Corsair VX450.
