I am building an A64 3500+ Venice System w/ a MSI K8N Neo Platinum, 6800 GT AGP, and 1 GB PC3200 Corsair ram. What is a good resonably priced PSU to use for this setup? I am confused on whether I need a dual +12v PSU or just a single. Any help would be appreciated.

It's what I use, and I couldn't be more pleased, it's also got a nifty and convenient way to pull the 4 pin connectors out, without the ocassional struggle to yank them out of whatever they're plugged into. =)

I agree with the other PSU suggestiong, but for the processor, get a 3000+ Venice and OC to 3500+ speeds, or get a San Diego 3700+ and don't OC...venice 3500+ is a bad choice.
Fortron AX500-A. I do not recommend the Enermax because I have heard a lot of things about the +12v drooping under a very heavy CPU load. It is not really a bad PSU, but you can do better. I also do not recommend TT PSU's. They are not exactly junk, but there are MUCH better available.
Nothing will beat the Fortron AX500-A in it's price range. It is $73 at ewiz.
I completely agree with this too. I would also get a different mobo such as the Epox or if you are really serious about tweaking your system the DFI. Also you can get a X800Xl for $250 at Monarch.

I do not recommend that PSU either. The fan is a joke and in many test I have seen it did not do well at all.

They are great if you want a quiet PSU. The Fortron gives you more bang for your buck though.
IS the performance of the seasonic any good? cuz i am thinking of picking that one up for my system which will be a water cooled A64 3200+ venice (overclocked), OCZ VX 3200, DFI nf4 ultra-d

The Seasonic S-12's are highly recommended. The only thing I dislike about them is the high cost (the Sparkle FSP550-60PLG is cheaper and better, but loud.). Also with highly overclocked CPU's the 18A may not be enough. This would only mainly be a problem with Prescotts reaching 5GHz or systems with dual CPU's though. Probably not a problem with your A64. A PSU with a single beefier +12v rail may be better though such as the Sparkle mentioned above, the OCZ Powerstream 520w or even the really expensive PC P&C 510. All of them would drive a heavier load then th4e Seasnic, but with a heavy load that requires more then the Seasnic those PSU's could get a little loud
The OCZ Modstream is not really that good of a PSU. You can see here why I really do not recommend them. The OCZ Powerstream 520w on the other hand is a completely different story and is highly recommended.

I would just stick with the S12-600 Seasonic unless you want something with a beefier +12v rail, but I doubt your A64 would need something like that.
The reason I went with the 3500+ and the MSI board is that I dont plan to OC and I already have a 6800 GT that I bought a year ago thats in my current p4 2.53 system that's about 3 years old. Anyways thanks for the input on the PSU's.
uh the tagan 480w u22 is cool, too. that year old 6800gt sounds like its agp, make sure the mobo is agp as well.
Yea it's agp that's why I went with the MSI board since it's agp also I didn't feel like buying the same card again in the pci-e format and the new 7800 cards are too expensive.
exactly what system are you upgrading from? a since you said 2.53p4 which sounds like a northwood and a 6800gt, you can just get 1gig of memory if you dont have it and an xp-90 and oc the cpu. then wait until you REALLY NEED TO UPGRADE.

an antec 350 watt would be sufficient, no joke. for some reason everyone around here thinks you need ginormous wattage power supplies, when in reality you need a quality power supply. hook that thing up with a kill-a-watt meter and it won't pull down even near 300 watts.
That system would run just fine on a 300watt PSU, recommending a 500+ watt unit makes absolutely no sense.

As it is the OP's system would draw no more then 200watts DC, overclocking might drive that up 5-10%. Multiple Hard drives only have a significant draw on spin up, once they are running they don't draw much power.
350watts is plenty.
