i'm building new rig and at this point i've 700 watts 80+bronze OCZ psu,

i'm planning on upgrading the PSU to better one to put more hardware in and need advice

MSI P67-G65MB B3
2500k (on stock atm)
8GB Gskill ram
kingstone SSD for OS and some programs
1TB WD black and 2x2TB WD black
9600GT (upgrading soon)
SATA DVD RW drive

i'm planning on either putting 2x6970 or 6990 depending on what i save up in new few month (or if 7000 series comes out) but doing crossfire since i've never done it.

should the PSU i've right now be sufficient or upgrade? if upgrade was thinking of getting corsair 80+gold certified PSU. will this be sufficient or do i need to go higher?

Thanks
CB

700W should be almost enough for a HD6970 Crossfire or HD6990 but the quality of that OCZ PSU might be questionable. State the full name of the OCZ PSU but most probably it is best to get a 750W+ PSU from Corsair or Seasonic as the OCZ might have already had some wear and tear.

If you don't want to push the 700w too hard, get a larger PSU. It should be fine though, but maybe marginal. Check the Anadtech article under power consumption for your card choice.

I prefer great ripple suppression, good regulation, and super efficiency for my first criteria.

it's OCZ modxtreme 700 watts, i had old ultra 500 watts PSU which actually died right on date the warranty ended. so i upgraded to this, i do agree with quality of OCZ and that was the last thing i bought after i had some problem with other hardware (have about 6 atm two had problem, 4 i paid too much as rebate never got to me) and yep that's y i'm considering upgrading it.

but if 750watts be sufficient i'll go with that one on corsair. just want to know as i'm not doing some powerful hardware or do lot of overclocking, so don't want to waste energy.

no budget limit for that and yes quality is priority, reason i choose to get corsair as i've heard nothing but good things on forums, also the 7 year warranty will do great too.

but if there is better quality i'll look into that too

The XFX XPS Black Edition 750w is a very good PSU. New Egg - 129$

"But seriously, people, this right here is one of the cleanest looking units I've ever tested, what with ripple so low I had to zoom in the scope just to show you how little of it there really is. 3.3V is under 15mV at all times. 5V is under 15mV at all times. 12V is under 21mV at all times. This thing is so awesome it's silly." - OklahomaWolf

If you don't oc anything the 700W PSU will be fine for dual 6970s. For dual 6990s I'd go with a quality 1200W unit.
