I am purchasing a case where the power supply mounts on the bottom and hear a lot of people say make sure you get a power supply with long enough power cords.

I'm looking for one >500W and with modular cables. (I've been eyeing Corsairs' 620HX) What manufacturers typically have long cables, and can anyone recommend a nice supply?

The case is the Cooler Master 690, but don't focus on that particular one because I'd like to keep the power supply a lot longer than the case.

Thanks.

Well if the specs are just 500+ and modular, the HX520 should be fine. You only need 620 for sli/crossfire setups.

Thanks, but what I was wondering was who makes decent power supplies that have long enough cables that I won't be short by an inch or two, or not be able to route the power cables out of the way due to tightness.

I guess I could just choose a supply and if I run into a problem with the length of the cables, e-mail the company. I've never had a power supply with modular cables. Do some of the manufacturers have a common type connector where the cables plug into the power supply?

Most psu's have similar cable lenghts. The 520hx should be fine in a bottom mounted case though, I've seen several people say it worked just fine with a p182 and a corsair 520hx.

You might want to double check your mobo too. If your 24pin connection is on the upper portion of the mobo, you might have a little streach. Not sure, but just thought you might want to double check it. Most mobo's have the 24pin power connection at about the middle to upper half of the mobo, so you would generally not have any issues.

Thanks for the replies.

I'll keep that in mind when picking out a motherboard. Right now I'm in the planning stages reading reviews, forums, etc. I'm going to pull the trigger sometime in January for the motherboard and processor.

There are a few things that don't seem to change in price too much. That would be Cases, PSU's, DVD/CD Drives, & generally mobo's. Those seem to be the ones you can get and thus streach out your build, but I generally like to order everything at once, so I can have time to test the parts out and be able to return any bad parts that I may run into.

Thats the mian thing. Get all your parts at about the same time. You don't want a few months to go buy, finally get all you parts together, and then find that one part is bad and you are past the date for getting a refund. Somtimes its best to just save up the money and then buy the parts. Tends to get you better parts anyway. By the time you get the money saved up better parts are out and the ones you wanted are much cheaper.

Yeah, that's what I'll do. I'm basically getting a list together of what items are going into the new build. I did buy a case however because I got a really good deal on it.

It's not that I don't have the money to buy everything now, I'm just a cheap bastard hoping the processors will come down a little more after the holidays and I'm undecided on the video card as well. I agree buying everything at once is your best bet. Another motherboard revision could come out between now and then, who knows? Plus I don't have the patience to sit there looking at new computer parts and waiting a month or two for something like a processor. That would be too much of a tease for me!
