PSU Quiz

OK, I'm getting a 1700XP and I'm looking for a good psu to power it. The four brands I'm looking at now are: Enermax, Enhance, Antec, and Sparkle.

What I want to know is if say all of the psu's that I'm looking at have a combined power of 220 on the 3.3 and 12v lines what makes one better than the other? Also, say the Enermax 400 or something has a combined power of 220 and the Enhance 300 has the same combined power, why is that? Wouldn't it be better to pay less money and get the same output of power there?

Thanks!

There's more to quality than output specs.... what's it made of? how's it put together? what's the warranty? ect......

I like enermax hardware quality... not enough experience to really judge the others, but I will say there are two Antec

PSUs sitting in the "extra stuff" pile (they have never even been plugged in) that I removed from my Antec SX830 cases.

I chose Enermax EG465P-VE as most appropriate for me at the time.

If the Enhance is cheap, why not? I have a 300W/175W combined Enhance powering my 8KHA+ and 1600+ @ 1.4ghz with no problem. I've even replaced the fan with a Panaflo L1A, so it's a quiet PSU now 😀 It came in my Evercase, and I was aware that there was a possibility for me to replace the PSU in order to run my mobo and processor...(the 175W combined one is good to 1600+, so I thought I was pushing it).

But this PSU is perfectly fine, even with a Panflo L1A blowing air out 🙂
