my curret system is below.
i'd like to get a new PSU to support a x1900xt that i plan to buy soon.

i found this PSU on newegg
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817148027

it has the following rail specs
+3.3V@17A, +5V@25A, +12V1@16A, +12V2@18A, -5V@0.5A, -12V@0.8A, +5VSB@3.0A

IS this going to be enough to support the x1900xt and a few more hdds ?
if not any other recommendations below 50 bucks.

Honestly, I don't think it will cut it, especially seeing you have a opty 165. I have a antec 480w and with my single amd64 at 2.2 and x1900xt at 700/1600 it doesn't deliver enough power. Seeing as Aspire's psu are "inferior" to antec's (from what I remember) I just don't think it will cut it, especially since you mentioned "future cards" which are rumored to be very watt hungry.

Spend a little extra and get something you know will do the job :)

For $50, this 450W Foltron is probably the only one that may be able to power an X1900XT (if you don't overclock that is) still, don't skimp on the PSU.

Don't get that Aspire. Those PSUs are a bad idea for the high-end.

I think the fortron psus with "ax" in front of them are the worse ones. Get something with "fsp" in front of it or get an enhance, enermax, seasonic, etc. You do have an sli board... why are you buying ati cards? Do you plan on sli in the future?

nope i bought the nf4 sli cuz it was only 10 bucks more than the ultra. figured the second slot may come in handy. (hey i may get enough money for sli maybe too). i have no fanboyish desire to buy ati its just that with the x1900xt coming down into the around 300 dollar range i think its the best bang for buck. i did initially intend to buy a single 7900gt but if prices on the x1900xt drop further it;ll be in 7900gt territory and i don't want to hjave to get a second PSU (the x1900xt consumes way more than the 7900gt right ?)just cuz my first one does not have enough juice.

I happen to have this exact PSU, and an X1900XT arriving tomorrow... Anyone have any further input as to whether it will be enough to power it?

Fortron AX450PN is good at that price level, but it will barely handle your hardware. FYI the Sparkle Power 400W model is essentially the same as a Fortron 450W.

however seeing the high end parts you have I would not hesitate at all to spend >$75 on a PSU. I would recommend Fortron Epsilon, Enermax, Antec Truepower, and a few others that I can't think of right now.

ok guys thanks for the info. i think i'll get a 7900gt which will have much less power usage. any way now can i find a nice psu for under 50 bucks that supports the 7900gt. i am ofcourse going to OC some atleast. and maybe even go for sli later on. will the fortron AX450PN be able to do that/.

It should be fine with a single 7900GT, though I doubt it would handle SLI. My X1900XT should be in by the time I get home today, so I will let you know if the AX450PN is able to handle that as soon as I get it set up.

Yes the 450W fortron will handle a single 7900GT and some overclocking, but be warned that if your system is greatly OC'd it will draw a lot more power than a stock system. Also the Fortron AX450 will most likely not be able to handle 7900GTs in SLi. If you want SLi, seek at least a 500 watt PSU from a reliable make.

i was wondering is it possible to use 2 PSUs.
one that powers my system (cpu, mobo , hdds, dvd-r ,fans) and one that powers the gpu. ? how would that work out.

any way looking forward to the AX450PN info crafty.

also what if i volt mod the 7900gt will the AX450 PN be able to handle that ?

It is possible, but you'd have to have a case that supports it as well. Bit of a bummer having to get a new case for that purpose. You might wanna try a bit of ghetto modding. :D

Just tried to find a web page with one on but couldn't, would search more only it's 2.20am here right now.

Have a look around on the net, these cases do exist.

My preference would be some kind of modding though.

It's weird I'm in a similar boat here. I'm trying to figure out and predict if my current Antec TrueBlue 480w PSU will be sufficient to power my soon to arrive X1900XT... I figure since I only have 1 HD, no sound card, and not OCing at all, I should be good to go in theory. But part of me worries about system stability after hours of Oblivion play...

Should I shell out $80 for a new Antec TruePower II 550w?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/CustRatingReview.asp?Item=N82E16817159040

is good or not ?

i really need to order it now cuz i left my old psu behind when i moved and really need to order a PSU ASAP.

Short answer, no. Never heard of Coolmax.

Edit: Although reading the reviews on NewEgg, maybe it's not too bad at all.

Would still prefer OCZ, Fortron, Tagan, etc.; over this brand.

I'm afraid for the system you have, and to cover any future additions, you're just going to have to loosen the purse strings a bit. A PSU is one item you don't want to "bargain" shop for. If you get an inferior unit you'll more than likely have stability issues ant the very least, or it may simply not work at all. You'll wind up buying a better more expensive unit in the end anyway, so save yourself a lot of headaches and get quality from the start. I've had a few Antecs, and personally I think they are overrated. They're OK, but you can find better. A lot of people on the forums like seasonic, liberty, fortron, enermax and some others, but I have no experience with any of them. I do have an OCZ 520 powerstream that I really like, but it's expensive. Do a little research, you should be able to find a nice unit in the $75-$100 range, maybe even a bit less.

I believe Newegg allows replacement RMA's for one year on most items. Refunds RMA's are also possible, but only within a much shorter window - 30 days, I think, but don't quote me on it.
