Well, I read the "purchasing guide" and I am still slightly confused since I am new to building computers. I have narrowed my search down to the following PSUs since according to the psu wattage calculator they provide enough power and also fit my budget:

Enermax Noisetaker 420W, Enermax Whisper 460W, and Seasonic Super Tornado 400W

I am going to be getting an ABIT KV8Pro with an Athlon64 3000+ or 3200+ socket 754 and intend to get a GeForce 6600GT. Which, if any, of these is best suited for this setup? Also, one of the Newegg reviews says something about the Noisetaker having a 24pin connector and no adapters, whats that all about?
 
The Whisper's my choice out of those 3 based on power, Noisetaker based on compromise between noise & power, & the Seasonic for quietest PSU operation

If you look @ Enermaxs site, the Noisetaker has 29A total balanced between two rails that can hold 18A at most per rail, the Seasonic has only 22A. The Whisper on the other hand has 33A & modern systems are utilizing 12V power moreso than 5V that older systems use.

About the Noisetaker & 24-pin connector, it's actually a 20-pin connector with the ability to convert into a 24-pin connector via sliding & hooking the additional 4-pins onto the side of the 20-pin connector & therefore turning it into a 24-pin connector without the need or use of an adapter.

Personally IMO all PSUs in your list would work fine in powering your system. Heck! my rig (see sig) which is similar to your intended setup (power consumption-wise) was powered up for a good part of the year with stable results under a cheap 420W Raidmax PSU with 13A on the 12V rail.
 
I failed to mention in my first post that I will probably do some mild overclocking. Do these PSUs still sound like they will do the trick or should I look into some that supply more power?
 
Well all of those are nice. However instead of looking at the Seasonic Super Tornados lok at their latest model the S12 which is even more powerful but just as quiet.

Also for a bit more money you could get the 420Watt OCZ Powerstream which has more power and higher quality than all of those.

Another vote for Seasonic here. Never had problems overclocking. P4 2.6 overclocked to 3.0 with 3 optical drives, 2 HDs and a 9800Pro, all powered by a Seasonic Super Tornado 300.
 
Seasonic here...500W is way overkill for your system. 22A on the 12v will give you plenty of headroom. And I read somewhere that the latest model of the SuperTornado now has 25A on the 12V, but it might be hearsay.
 
Okay, so what about Noisetaker 420w vs. Seasonic 400w? I really dont intend to overclock much, seems like some people get like 2.6-2.7gHz out of the 3000+ with a little work and I dont think I would ever try to go more then 2.2-2.4gHz myself. I am not too concerned with it being really quiet as long as its not really loud; basically I dont need it to be silent but at the same time I dont want it to sound like a jet. So would either of those PSU's be up to the task?

Also I dont really care for any of the supplies that have LED fans. Its just a personal preference I guess. Is there anyway to easily turn the LED illumination off? If so I might consider something like the Fortron Blue Storm even though its a touch more then I would like to spend.

I have to reflect what this poster said. Spend a couple bucks more for the OCZ and KNOW you have the best. The folks from OCZ have some of the absolute best support I have ever seen across several industries and their products deserve the slightly higher price for the quality!
 
To be quite honest I dont exactly have the budget to drop $110 (shipped) on a psu (referring to OCZ Powerstream suggestion) at this time. I also dont want a supply with a damned LED fan. In fact I dont understand why OCZ, for example, has them in all the supplies that I can find of theirs. Can the LED illumination be turned off on those or no?

It seems to me Enermax and Seasonic are both good companies as people have stated in this thread that they like them. I guess I just want to get a feel for if either the Enermax Noisetaker 420w or the Seasonic Tornado 400w will be able to hold up to the load of the system I listed with a mild OC. I know without OC they should be okay as the power calculator has the system needing about 380w. If you think either of them would be fine I am curious which one would you choose over the other?
 
I'm not trying to flame anyone here, but there seems to a lot of fanboys on this forum. Any topic that is posted about power supplies inevitably leads to an OCZ post. I'm not saying OCZ is not a great company, but it's also not the ONLY good power supply on the market. The guys obviously on a budget so he can't afford to get the best of everything. Thats why he asked about the PSU's that he did, they're a bit lower in price.
 
Seasonic. Quiet and super efficient!

They dont need to have quite as many amps on the rails because of their efficiency if i'm correct.
