My rigs are below in my sig. Due to getting a 720p TV instead of a 1080p my 4870 is WAY overpowered to be hooked to a 1366x768 TV and not to mention hot running. What I want to do is a merry-go-round with my graphics cards. This is what I'm thinking:

4870 w/ E8400
8800GTS w/ Opteron 165
7800GT w/ e6550 in HTPC.

I'm actually not sure on that last switch since I'm thinking of keeping my 7800GT paried with the Opteron 165 but thats neither here nor there....

What I am concerned about is my Earthwatts 500 ability to power the 4870 along with the overclocked E8400, 8gb ram, 2 hdd, etc... Does anyone see an issue with this? I don't have a kill-a-watt so I have no idea how to determine current power draw. With my current setup the higher power drawing 4870 is paired with the non overclocked e6550 and the lower power draw 8800 GTS is with the overclocked e8400 so thats why I am asking.

Thanks for your help with this.

I didn't think there would be an issue but I figured asking first was easier than going through the driver uninstall/reinstall and then having the card not work properly...

Let me check the power draw on my system to give you an idea of what you'll need. I have an EA500W running the rig in my sig.

Okay, looks like running OCCT and ATI Tool with my 4 fans at max it pulls ~300W from the wallplate. It may peak higher than that at times but I think you'll be just fine with the EA500, even if you decide to oc your 4870. If you're curious, it pulls about 150W at idle and 265W with just ATI Tool running.

Thanks for the research and all the info, I really appreciate it! I went with the change over the weekend any everything is working fine. I have only done a little gaming (some crysis just to see the improvements over my 8800gts 512) but so far so good. With your OC at 4.0 and a higher voltage I should have a little headroom to oc the 4870 since I'm only running 3.7 at stock volts. I just can't believe how freaking hot this card gets... I upped the fan speed to 32% and it still idles at 58-60c.

Anyway, I can definitly say I love this Earthwatts 500. I paid $20 for it after rebate over a year ago and it takes everything I throw at it without a hitch and still runs silent.
